Also, Bastion. If you write the rest of the post off as the deranged frothing jibberish of a delusional madman, still get Bastion. One of the finest soundtracks in gaming and a great, great game to boot.

Never understood the Bastion love. Yes, it's pretty and has a nice soundtrack, but the combat's a dull click-fest lacking in any depth. I played it through once but just can't be bothered firing it up again.

Welcome to PC gaming, OP. That means one thing: the world of mods has opened up for you.

You need to buy Knights of the Old Republic 2 on Steam. Then head here: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/197-tsl-restored-content-mod/

This is KotOR2 with the content that was cut due to LucasArts rushing the game restored, as best fans have been able to do.

Then go install Morrowind and Deus Ex with fan-made graphics update mods. You know it's the right thing to do!

Since you got a very powerful computer, I guess you want some games that make good use of its hardware. These games are not my absolute all-time favorites, but are some of my favorites that make good use of the PC's hardware:

Deus Ex Human Revolution - The original Deus Ex is far superior, but its graphics are very outdated.
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - Make sure to download the latest community patch, as this game is very buggy and broken otherwise.
The Witcher - Play the first before the second. Your items and story decisions can be imported to W2.
Skyrim - Far superior to the console versions since you have mods, community fixes, and broken quests can be fixed using console commands.
Legend of Grimrock - A great indie dungeon crawler.

Let's skip everything you can get on a console. While KB&M are more accurate controls, the games aren't that different.

Wargame: European Escalation. You will never, ever, get anything like it on a console. This is modern PC gaming at its best. Recommended to absolutely everyone who likes strategy games. Despite the deceiving looks, it's not a RTS. It just happens to move in real time.

Dungeons of Dredmor. An user-friendly roguelike with 10 levels of dungeon and a big bad waiting at the bottom. Permadeath is the only way to play; took me about 60 hours to kill Dredmor for the first time. Complexity out the wazoo with huge amount of strategies to discover.

The Cat and the Coup. It's free, it takes about 15 minutes and you may learn something.

Darwinia and DEFCON: Everybody Dies. I don't want to spoil any surprises, but the mood. My god, it is so thick you can cut it with a knife and serve on plates.

Other stuff to try: some source port of Doom (I recommend Skulltag), Time Gentlemen Please!, Dawn of War 2 in co-op mode, MAME, Civilization IV, Frozen Synapse, Total War: Napoleon with the random join-option enabled and if you really must have something pretty to play Battlefield 3 or Skyrim with mods.

Depends on what you like.

4X strategy:
-Civilization IV. Best in the Civ series, though with Gods and Kings 5 gets close. Get the Beyond the Sword Expansion, and its amazing, with a few great mods out there too. All turn based, on a regular square grid.
-Any Total War game [Though I remember hearing Empire wasn't as good as it could have been, though you'll have to ask someone else on that]. Great grand strategy games, with tactical combat carried out in real time with some reasonable level of depth.

RTS:
-Starcraft 2. Fast paced, quite well balanced, massive online community, focused on Multiplayer but has a single player campaign. Small scale overall.
-Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. Very slow paced [Games take several hours to complete most of the time], rather poorly balanced overall [Against the AI you don't notice all that much though]. Small online community that dependent on who you get in a game can be hostile to new members, but not always. Focused on Single Player, has no campaign. Massive Scale.

FPS:
-Battlefield 3. If you're looking for one of the newer 'Hyper realistic' [Lolwat] FPS games, BF3 is the go to. Vehicles, terrain destruction, large maps and 64 players help the gameplay, whilst the graphics are absolutely stunning.
-Tribes Ascend. If you don't like modern hyperealistic shooters, this is probably the best go to in modern times. Interesting play mechanics with skiing, and guns that don't have instant travel bullets, and if they do then they deal pathetic damage. Quite fun all in all.
-Black Mesa. Half Life 1 Remake in the Source Engine. If you want an FPS focused on the campaign, with great atmosphere and with occasional breaks from just shooting things for you to complete other tasks [Some minor platforming, solving some minor puzzles], this is definitely the go to game.

Sandbox:
-Batman Arkham City. Looks great on the PC, very well polished and is fun to play. Not much more to say - the combat is a joy, the story is good and it paces itself well - as well as actually having a couple of good boss fights.
-Sleeping Dogs. Looks amazing on the PC [Shaders and reflections anyway, especially in the rain. Textures are ok, but faces look kinda bad IMO compared to some other PC titles]. Fun to play, somewhat interesting story, and all of Hong Kong to treat as your playground. In addition, the driving being overly arcady means it controls ok on the PC in that department, and it can be hilarious some of the things you do.

Other than that, I'll leave it for you to decide. RPGs are these days too broad in what people consider to be and not to be RPGs to be able to give a decent recommendation, MMOs I hate and don't play, and most other types of games I generally ignore.
