I know it's petty, but...

I'm kinda hoping both the PS4 and Xbox1 tank. Just to shock the industry a little. Also because I feel like they never listen to what we want, because whatever they make - we buy.

Nothing stimulates an industry like colossal failure. If those consoles tank then we'll be getting nothing but iPhone games where you have to get three things in a row for the rest of the decade.

Also there are millions of people who view their console as nothing more than a terminal to play FIFA or CoD. It is for those people that AAA titles are made, that you or I may play them is just gravy as far as they're concerned but they aren't all bad.

Just look at Codemasters; they're alledgedly a small, 'pure' development house and yet they made Dirt: Showdown. A tiny, waff, game that was sold on the false perception of being the remake of Destruction Derby 2, the only fun racing game ever made by anyone. Of course they also made Ashes Test Cricket which is amazing but that isn't the point.

The point is that lots of money sloshing around is good because it means we'll get something worthwhile even if it is only the crumbs from the big developers' tables.

You'd have to elaborate considerably in order for me to fully understand where you're coming from, but I think I kind of get the gist of what you're saying nonetheless.

It would indeed shake up the industry if PS4 and Xbox One BOTH failed, but I'm sure you know as well as I that the chances of that happening are slim at best. The most likely outcome in fact is that both consoles will do well, with neither one dominating the other.

As for never listening, well yes you're right there. All that matters in the end to any company is their profit margins.
Gamers love to whinge and moan more than just about any consumer group, but what you must do if you dislike or disagree with something is simply boycott it. No use in complaining about something if you're routinely supporting it - that's hypocrisy on your part if nothing else.

Me personally, I plan on picking up a PS4 as soon as possible. Why? Because I want one, and I'm happy with Sony's approach in most cases.

I do not plan on buying an Xbox One because I detest Microsoft and the idea of them receiving my hard-earned money makes me feel physically ill.

Or a big migration to PC. I think it'd be great. Maybe we'd get some of the "exclusives" for PCs. PCs aren't a closed monopoly like consoles are; lots of different companies make PCs and PC parts which means competition. Unless you count the microsoft operating system monopoly for PCs which is a valid complaint.

Technical nonsense aside, there is little keeping someone from taking a PC tower and plugging a nice big TV and some controllers into it in front of the living room couch.

Ya I can see the need to rattle the cages from time to time, right now people are all too willing to blindly follow any lemming train.
But you should be aware that this could result in mass hysteria and publishers putting everyone on the street not to mention what the very spazzy consumers might do, heck even things like Steam and Kickstarter could come to a dead stop and disappear.

I would much rather see them on a slow burn like it's going with WiiU, let people take their time and weigh their options but most of all let the companies come up with real benefits to buy their shit, right now they all expect to sell big because it's their name on the tag and you will take it anywhere they please.

Many of my friends have already done so, a perfectly valid choice. I don't have a TV because I am one of those dickheads.

We will always remember. We might not want to remember Rurik, but we will.
??? Is this in the right thread?

Eep! It is definitely not the right thread.

This is really odd-- I didn't even have this thread open, let alone did I post in it.

I won't get into my dislike for Microsoft but I do hope the PS4 will succeed. I love how at it's core it's still very much a 'traditional' console(the last of it's kind) designed with primarily videogames in mind. I also agree with Sony's approach to game design and the direction they want to go with PS4. I would hate to see a world where all we have is iPhone/iPad shovelware and online multiplayer crap. It would completely eviscerate the creativity of the medium and would indeed finally and definitely turn it into a zero risk/high profit cash cow. But I don't think that will ever happen b/c there will always be a market for quality entertainment.
