I want to start off by saying that I've never played Halo multiplayer save one night at a friends house for a couple of minutes while one of them was getting a drink. I've never played it, online or locally, multiplayer since then. That being said...

I like Halo, from the first time I picked it up. I was engrossed in the story, I fell in love with the characters, not to mention that it was one of the first games I played where, while I had the ability to kill off every living thing in the universe, I didn't have to. An elite and four grunts on a patrol, a grenade and a few well placed shots would take them out but I had the liberty to pass them up and continue on without being penalized by missing out on xp. But I digress. I feel like I'm in a very small minority here. The majority seems to think that Halo is a multiplayer game. That's it. You get online and play and, wait, there's a single player campaign? I hear people critisize the game for not being deep. Since when does a story have to be "deep" to be enjoyable, and for that matter, Halo is far from the flat, predictable, and sometimes even boring stories seen in other games, I'll throw one out there: Prototype (utter yawn, I never even finished it). I thought about this all day and then came home to find The Halo 3 Commercials [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100479-Halo-3-PS2-Ads-Make-25-Most-Epic-Ads-List] in the news, and that reminded me further of the universe that the games spawned.

Overall, I like Halo, not for the game, but for story. Playing it I was reminded of the feelings that I used to have playing Final Fantasy back when that actually meant something, when they were actually Good(I haven't played XIII yet >.> My expectations are low though, I hope to be suprised). I can't be the only one that feels that way. Was there anyone else that actually appreciated Halo for what it was and not just as another capture the flag game?

Oh, and I am looking forward to the Halo movie when it comes out. Don't know when that'll be, but it's inevitable.

I'm confused as to whether or not this is a review, and why it is in off-topic discussion.
And I like Halo, also. So? People like different things, and you shouldn't care either way about what games people do and don't like.

Well, I completely disagree. I found Halo to be too boring to finish and the gameplay to be mediocre. As far as I can see Halo has brought nothing new to the table and has done nothing in a spectacular enough way to merit any sort of bragging.

Good for you for liking it though.

So whats the discussion here, how massively popular franchises are shunned on this site or talk about being Halo fanboys.

I'll just go with I'm a Halo fanboy, loved the game, loved the story, loved the controls, and always had fun throwing sticky grenades at Michelle Rodriguez.

I like Halo and its story as well.

But really, who cares? Play what you like, and if others don't like it, who cares?

As a fell Halo fan all I can say is well done stating what you like without fear of what others say.

I for one enjoyed Halo very much. When I first played it I was instantly blown away by how amazing it is. And I agree that the story, though kind of missing in the game, it was still great.

And I'll only watch a Halo movie if it was done like the ODST commercial.

WHAT MADNESS? Halo is not only a multiplayer game. The first one relied on it's story to carry it through, and it was an epic story. First person, one player, punch that grunt in the face one player awesomeness. Halo 2 was more multiplayer based because of the emergence of Xbox live at the time, it's story suffered but I think that's mainly due to sequel sickness. And by Halo 3 it was made with Live and single player in mind. Hell the believe trailers were created practically to market that shiz.

Still Halo is awesome. And it is aimed at both really. Single and Multiplayer.

That's the problem, though. There is no really deep storyline. There are few plot twists or anything out of the ordinary, and the characters are all fairly generic. Every marine is a meat head and a macho cowboy, far from what real people are like. The only one with any real emotion is Sergeant Johnson, and he is the stereotypical badass black squad commander with an extra helping of sass, but with little depth.

Of course, I do like Halo CE, mainly because it was fairly new in its gameplay ideas, and its use of strategy was better than the other games. Halo 2 was almost all run and gun, with no tactical depth, and Halo 3 was an improvement on Halo 2, but it didn't match Halo CE in my opinion.

Now, I would like Halo's story if it weren't for its lack of real dynamic material. Everything is one setting: a mostly generic war. You get very little background on your missions, and everything is based around "Oh, shit, the Covenant are coming, kill them." It's like reading a Tom Clancy book without the complexity of the events and plot. Red Storm Rising, for instance, wasn't good because you fall in love with a deep story line, but the story line was exciting because it has all the intrigue of war. Now, that isn't the best example, but from a story standpoint, Halo could have had more to go along with your role as Master Chief. Perhaps you are more in the middle of the war rather than the hero of the war, towering over all other figures. I understand you are a super soldier, but it still doesn't seem very deep when all you hear about humanity getting destroyed is from outside tales, but once you are in the fighting the Covenant get torn apart.

I agree with you.

Mostly.

As far as story, the only one I actually liked for the story was Halo: CE because it was new, fresh, and original in my eyes.

After that...well...

And of course I liked Halo 3: ODST for its story too, but that's somewhat cheating, because it doesn't have its own standalone multiplayer.

How long has it been since you played? All the missions are tied to the events of the past missions, with specific goals related to the information gained from previous events in the game. It is much more than "kill the Covenant": how about the mission where you're trying to find the map of Halo, or going in to try and save Captain Keyes, or when you're trying to escape from the exploding ring? Considering the context of being on a strange ring-like world that you do not understand, there is a lot more to any given mission besides "kill the bad guys."

OT: It's nice to see someone who liked Halo for the same reasons I did. It was one of the first games I played that had a great story, and the characters, universe, and overall plot are much better than people give it credit for. It irritates me how many Halo-hating sheep are out there, thinking they're "going against the flow" for hating a game that everyone loves. Most reasons for hating Halo simply make no sense, especially when it comes to a lack of originality. Anything in console shooters that is like Halo is probably there because of Halo: I would hardly call Halo's inclusion of such elements unoriginal... more like groundbreaking.

Personally, I like Halo 3. I play the multiplayer with friends from time to time. I had never played Halo before when I got Halo 3, and I thought the story was... Well, Dull. I formed no emotional attachments to any of the characters, and I didn't really find any of the events surprising or groundbreaking in any way shape or form. The campaign of Halo 3 was my least favorite part of the whole experience. Halo 3:ODST was much better story-wise in my opinion.

I also like Halo, although I don't like the story that much.

People have different opinions, and telling other people yours will never change theirs.

I like halo I dont know what it did to deserve the hate it gets.
as for the story its good in number 1 then starts to go down & I like the game play but the plot is 9x if you read the books, then you feel for master chief or John
