Well, damn her for liking something you don't. God, we should just string her up for not sharing your taste in music! The nerve of some people, not liking Opeth!

...Wait, who the hell are Opeth?

Do you like courgettes or do you like lamb chops? What a ridiculous comparison. I like heavy metal, prog, hard rock blah blah blah, but I don't like Opeth. I find them tedious and extremely overrated. Where tdoes that place me? Would I listen to Beiber over them? Probably not, but I could argue that his writers have a better idea of song construction than Opeth do.

If she likes Beiber, try her out with some more challenging pop music, like Marina and the Diamonds, Gabriella Cilmi, Kate Nash, Lily Allen etc etc etc...

A similar story from my first semester room mate in college:

Me- "you ever seen Star Wars?(the good ones)"
Her- "No, I like Moulin Rouge...! It's so much better."
Me- "...But Star Wars is one of the most iconic stories of our time. It helped define a generation"
Her- "But Moulin Rouge takes place in Paris...!"
(I swear, that was her actual reasoning)

I lost my faith in humanity in 1989. It was the night of my seventh birthday.
That was the first time i die--
Oh, the title was a joke. Yeah, big surprise. Having any taste at all makes you a minority in this day and age. By the way, if you have any faith in humanity left anyway, there is something wrong with you.

You can't expect someone who likes Justin Beiber to like something of a completely different genre. They're not comparable, so the likelihood of them liking that band is low.

Yes, their taste in music and recognition of quality may be off, but there's still preference to consider. You're going about it the wrong way.

how kind thought XD.

But overall like stated so many bloody times. Music is matter of taste and comparing it is as silly as taking piece of cheddar and giving it to Carlston for not letting stranger die.
And speaking of music.. i think i feel to listen some Ensiferum

Far to be the grammar nazi, as I hate them. But seriously what are you talking about?
Might wanna say English is not your first or fifth language cause I can't make heads or tails of linking your cheddar comment and this thread.

See this kids? Say no to drugs...

How long will that take?

TBH I don't think it will ever happen.
It's entirely possible that he's on hormone suppressants in order to cash in for the rest of his (un)natural life.

Also, yay I started a subthread.

On a more serious note, the way I look at it, the universe has existed for billions of years. Humans cap at around 110. Therefore, all these things that make people lose faith in humanity are meaningless, as frankly, living is the biggest inconvenience that any individual will undergo in their existence.

Have I depressed anyone enough to make them forget about the fact that they "lost faith in humanity?"

I love Opeth. Seconded only by the old lamb of god stuff. I agree that Opeth is better (in my oppinion). However, at the same time, you must ask the question, what am I doing? Am I listening to music to enjoy it and let it bring me to worlds i could never have dreampt of? (or perhaps ones you wish you could go back to). Or rather am I here to constantly be critiquing the world around me? To wait until the word talent ruins my mind and makes it that I can only see in black and white. Good and Shit. I would agree that opeth are better, but I also Queen and eminem and Flight of The conchords. I guess you could say, I love Music, not names.

Given the choice I'd rather listen to Bieber myself. Yes it's true, Metal sucks harder than Bieber. And before some wiseass goes quoting me, it's my opinion, not every opinion which differs from yours needs to be responded to.

It's all freaking opinions buddy. If you were to "lose faith in humanity" it should be because millions upon millions of people like Bieber, not because of one person. There's 2 things to distinguish here.

1) Being able to recognize good music doesn't mean one should like it. But you should realize there is talent in it, at the very least. For example, I don't really enjoy opera, but I know that the amount of training, dedication, and birth-given ability plays a large part of it, therefore it is "good" to me. You don't become a professional opera singer overnight.

2) Just because something requires a lot of talent, or technical skill, or above average musical interpretation, doesn't mean everyone is going to like it. I find fusion jazz (especially latin) and some extreme forms of death metal to be the most technical music out there, 1,000,000x more than the pop that floods charts today, but the general public prefers to celebrate mediocrity and one artist, rather than many. It's pop man, it's easier to relate to for everyone, even those who don't want or don't care to understand music, it makes them happy to listen in their cars or at parties, or bop to at a concert, just leave it at that.

My friend thinks Justin Bieber is the greatest thing ever, and I said have you listened to Opeth? She said no and I showed her a few songs, and she said it was horrible...she said Bieber was better than Opeth...what is wrong with this world??

Btw: I told her don't look at what you enjoy more, but look at the songwriting and structure and instrumentation, and she still said Bieber was better

Edit: The title of my thread is a joke. I did in no way lose my faith in humanity. Seriously the people replying and getting all pissy about the title of my thread is getting annoying.
You compare Opeth to Justin Beiber? Both of them sound like nails on a chalk board, and even though I prefer rock music Opeth sounds even moreso because its Death Metal.

I've recently began thinking that Justin Bieber and Rebbeca Black are one and the same...I've lost my faith in the music industry and other people's taste but that happened long ago when I realized to myself, my tastes seem like the best. Opeth are pretty awesome, I'm seeing them in July...so far away!!!!
