I played Planescape: Torment recently and am currently re-playing FF 7, and the environments in both game are absolutely beautiful. It's this awesome 2d (2.5d?), hand drawn artwork that games don't seem to have anymore. I feel like 3d games are just now catching up to this stuff, but even still, it usually doesn't have the same charm or level of detail. Practically every room in these games looks like they were handmade by an artist. I'm not saying that I want to go back to those days entirely or that they are better. You can't get those amazing vistas from a game like Oblivion from those kinds of graphics. I'm just saying that they're really pretty and I'd like to see more of it.

Anyone else feel the same way? Also, can anyone point to some modern games with that kind of art style? I am sure the Baldur's Gate games and any other older RPG would have the same thing. The Diablo games are another example. I guess these games are all "2.5 D" if I'm understanding that term right.
