I miss the time when developers where proudly saying in interviews that they would develop a game in each platform from the ground beggining so it make use of every platform's powers.
There was a time developers felt that stating that they would spend time to make each platform version of their game unique was something to be proud of.
So we would see the Playstation 1 version of a game having full motion cutscenes thanks to the available space cds offered for that time, the Nintendo 64 version the game would have slide shows instead of cutscenes because of the limited space cartidges allowed, but it would have higher quality less pixelated textures thanks to its more RAM and more powerfull processor, and the PC version of the game would have both high res textures, cutscenes, and online mode.

Fast forward to today, where developers feel proud for saying that they do the exact opposite, which is developing for a single platform and then porting this version to other platforms too. They now feel proud because by doing that they say they promote "platform equality".
So hey,we now got games developed for xbox360 that are then ported to ps3 full of bugs and glitches because of the different processor architecture it uses, they never show up in the wii,and the pc versions have graphics that look ancient by the platform's standards and miss traditional customization features.

Equality is a nice word,we generally want this in our lives, but is this kind of game equality really good ?
I mean in this generation ps3,wii,and pc players all lost something, but does it really worth it ?

Games were much cheaper to produce for the PSOne, though. Much easier to code for than the PS3, too.

Eh, sounds like a waste of time to me. Besides, as the previous post pointed out, that shit is a lot more expensive these days.

Personally, I'm not about to throw a tantrum because my PC has 360-ish graphics. Reminds me of those people who started whining themselves inside out because Crysis 2 said "press start" on the opening screen.

Badly ported control schemes on the other hand...

The biggest thing I don't understand, though, is why in ever-loving fuck don't both console AND PC players get traditional customization features?

I'm on the Xbox, but I don't see why the ability to fully map the buttons isn't in most new games. Or the ability to change the color of the HUD in shooters. These types of things are incredibly easy to implement and are probably the most time-efficient features that a developer could add, and are also some of the most baffling exclusions from games today.

This, along with the fact that yes, very different technologies required very different techniques when it comes to developing and porting. And i'd say even that era had it's fair share of bad ports.

Also, i heard the Call of Duty Games for the Wii are actually pretty well made despite the heavy technological downgrade...
