Does anyone else miss WWII games? I never got tired of WWII like many did, and I for one mourn their passing. Hopefully a developer makes a new WWII game soon. What do you think?

Seriously? I'm glad the genre seems to have died. I hate the shitty WW2 guns.

Also, a massive majority of those games are from America's point of view. I kind of got sick of the "'merica! Fuck yeah!" patriotism.

Hate the guns, and iron sights are so ugly they make my eyes bleed. Good riddance.

I agree, I like World War 2 games but there are other things to explore. Maybe an ambitious WW2 game might be good.

Alternate history is also really fun.

I miss them too. There hasn't been a good WWII FPS for many years. Red Orchestra 2 ought to be out fairly soon though. Hopefully it can deliver.

The trouble with the above comments is that they assume that the only possible games from WWII are first person shooters. WWII was a period of human history of such stunning human achievement that its impossible that the only game you could make is a call of duty style shooter; how about a hitman style stealth game about SOE operations in German-occupied France, or maybe Tank commander style games where you work up toward becoming a Tank-ace on either side of the conflict.

The saboteur had a bold stab at opening up the genre to open-world stealth-em-up gameplay and was damn good fun. But it had serious issues; the framerate would slow down to a crawl in sections and with the quality of the graphics that was inexcusable and there was little to no replay value unless you count blowing up all of the Nazi's shit in the Game, but apart from that I had a great deal of fun throughout my time playing the Saboteur, especially since it allowed me to play a WWII-ish world from another perspective. (Additionally the villains were so moustache twirlingly, opera cape swishingly evil that they were a joy to watch mince across the screen).

So its certainly not a dead genre by any reasonable measure, it just needs a chance to wash the Call of Duty stink out of its hair, so just enjoy a couple of years without it... it'll be back (and hopefully it'll bring mecha-hitler with it!)

That's actually a good point. You'd think there would be a lot more WW2 games that aren't an FPS. I'd love to see and Assassin's Creed set in WW2, maybe a female Russian/British assassin. That would be awesome.

The most recent one I can think of is The Saboteur. It's quite fun, sort of like WW2 Assassin's Creed.

That would be awesome and I'd be outside the store at 9 oclock on release date for that game

Nah I'm pretty thoroughly satisfied with the hundreds of games with the same 10 guns...and I'm not 100% sure, but I think all of them end the same way.

I always preferred WWII shooters to modern ones. I actually preferred the guns. They're more fun to me, I like iron sights and semi-automatic weapons.

I always liked them too. Its just the huge scale, masses of troops, all kinds of terrain, lots of factions involved.
Modern Wars are just boring and lack the clear good guy-evil guy distinction,Id probably finish my mission and then hit the suicide button just for satisfaction.
Plus i like the weapons, a K98 or M1Garand are just much more interesting than just full automatic assault rifles. You have to think twice if you charge and every shot counts.

damn i guess i just start some CoD2 and kick some ancestorial butt

I'd really like a game from the perspective of a German soldier who didn't fully understand the workings of the country for which he fought, but that game will never be made.

Yeah, perspective was the problem. Putting you in the shoes of a soldier that seemingly had no chance of victory like a Russian soldier when the Germans seemed like they were about to administer the coup de grace, a British soldier when the island was under attack, or a Chinese soldier against impossible odds fighting Japan while the Kuomintang seemed to be fleeing around around them would add a fresh new take on the whole affair. Yes, American got this glorious reputation when we finally stepped into the conflict, but having an American developer sit on the humility stool and show the conflict from the perspective of someone who fought through the entire ordeal would be quite nice.

Do it!

I think it's to seared into my mind, my whole life all the games have revolved around nazis, zombies or aliens. I wouldn't hate seeing a COD redo the old time, but with the weapon mods and leveling up. Realistically though, I mean I am so tired of my main weapon being bolt action and semi auto is like the shit.

Honestly, I do miss WWII. Some of my favorite games are set in it. Luckily, I've had COHO to tide me over.

Did the 10,001 titles released in the last decade not quench your thirst? lol. :p
They would have if most of them didn't suck...=/

That or if they were anything other than a linear FPS...>=/

Or just a Weimar soldier.
