High Rise by JG Ballard, and probably everything else by him as well but I haven't read anythng else yet. Anyway it's middle class people in some flats going mad and fighting and it's brilliant.

Battle Royale. It's japanese schoolkids on an island killing each other, perfect.

2. My favourite genres are Sci Fi
4. I love funny books
11. I really love books that are 'un-put downable'
Based on that read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.

It's about a sword fighting hacker/Mafia pizza delivery guy called Hiro Protagonist who uncovers a plot to infect humans via the Metaverse (internet) with an ancient virus that crashes peoples brains like a computer. A bit tongue in cheek as you might have guessed from the main characters name and job description but it's still got a brilliant mystery/thriller storyline and some great characters, such as the impossibly badass Raven, a harpoon throwing Aleut who carries a hydrogen bomb in his motorbikes sidecar.

Most of the books I've read off those lists have been brilliant. The Time one is a bit more concise obviously because it tries to pick the most important and influential books but the ones on the Guardian list are still just as high quality. There's tonnes of brilliant authors on there that I wouldn't have ever heard of otherwise.

I recommend Mass Effect: Revelation and Ascension by Drew Karpyshyn a very sci-fi book and a great in depth look if you liked the game.

The Hellgate London trilogy by Mel Odom gunfights, swordfights, and magic all in a burned out ruined London that was caused by demons.

Finally the Diablo books 6 of them are by Richard A. Knaak and another one is by Mel Odom. 4 of the books have unrelated stories with the main characters ranging from an adventurer looking for treasure, a mercenary captain, a lieutenant in the navy, and finally a necromancer(he is my favorite). The other three are a trilogy about the begining of the huge war between the angels and demons with the humans caught in the middle.

Those are mainly the ones I enjoyed so check them out(though you seem to have all the recommendations you need).

Damn near anything by Chuck Palahniuk is awesome.
Also, the one book I CANNOT recommend enough is "House Of Leaves" by Mark Danielewski. It is one of the most original, creepy, funny, brilliant, mindf--- of a book! Any description I try to give you would understate how cool this book is. Starts out as a story of a house that is literally bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, and just goes from there. Seriously, read it, and if you don't like it I will personally bow down before you and beg your forgiveness for wasting your time.

Try the Bartimaeus trilogy. They're excellent moder fantasy books. The books are about Londong politics. Sound boring? Oh, I forgot to mention that the politicians are all magicians that summon their own demons to do their bidding! Can't recommend them enough.

For sci-fi, perhaps you'd like A brave new world. That's my favourite book. It's set a few hundred years in the future, I think, and society is based around making sure everybody is happy. It's basically utopia gone wrong, and it's genius.

okay, to start you absolutely MUST read The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, the first book is Wizard's First Rule. also, The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is one of the essentials, first book is The Eye of the World. pretty much anything by Dennis L. Mckiernan is pretty good. His books aren't amazing, but they are definitely enjoyable. I especially like The Iron Tower Trilogy and the Hel's Crucible Duology. um, I forgot the author, but The Sword, The Ring, and The Chalice series is good. all the books are named that. One of my favorite stand alone books is The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, the Ender's Game series, The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is really good, as is Kate Elliot's series, The Crown of Stars, the first book is The King's Dragon. Salvatore's stuff is pretty good, and that's a blanket statement cause he has a few series. I've heard good thing's about Tad Williams' Otherland series, but I've only read the series that starts with The Dragonbone Chair. There's a cool kids series by Garth Nix called The Seventh Tower, it has quite a few books, but they're all really short. I think he has a couple others that were pretty good, too. anyways, that's all I can think of at the moment.

Alice Munros is considered to the best living short story writers. She lives up in Canada and her stories are colleced into book form. Amazon does carry them and most likely your local library does too. They tend to run the same price as any paperback.

Almost anything by Ray Bradbury. Dandelion Wine is one of his best known works. In fact a crater in the moon was named after the book. He can get a little wordy at times but I never had a problem.

D. H. is another excellent author. Did you know that his books got banned because they adressed both physical and emotional/intimate love. Lady Chaterly's Lover is the most well know out of he banned books. And they weren't even explicit - he just used the power of suggestion most times. Fortunaely his books are no longer banned and can be found in a mirad places.

A Confederacy Dunces by John Kennedy Tool is an absolutly hilarious book, although the history the author is heart-breaking. Tool could not get his work published during his life time and commited suicide in his mid-thirties. His mother found a smeard carbn copy of this book. It took her 10 years to ind someone read it. Wihin a year it had won the pulitzer prize. It can be really laugh out loud funny. He even uses references that many of the younger generaion which would think he was just making i up - like drinking 'Dr. Nu' - a real true drink a few decades back.

I have two more suggestions for you:

- Track down the authors who won the pulizer. If you find out that you like it start reading more of the author's work. Sometimes it can be helpful to do a quick study of him/her

- Make time to read whatever you want to read. Doesn't matter what it is.

Good Luck
