Devil May Cry 3 (maybe 4 as well, haven't played it).

Also, Samurai Warriors 2. I liked its leveling/skill system a lot better than Dynasty Warriors' items/weapons.

So yeah, I'm getting sick of all the goddamn fucking FPS-es that plague the gaming market and have decided to go out and buy a hacker n slasher. But of course, I can't decide so I will put my trust into all you Escapist dwellers and blah blah blah...

Thanks!
Do you have a Dreamcast? Cuz there was this AWESOME game called SWORD OF THE BESERK based around the manga - it was a great game and had about an hour or more anime to watch in it. Great stuff if you can find it.
I might go dust mine off ...

No More Heroes
Ninja Gaiden 2

Both of them are pretty solid, although I lean towards No More Heroes because it was just so odd.

Diablo 2 LOD

STOP POSTING HERE PEOPLE

THAT MAN HAS ALREADY FINISHED THE THREAD! FINISHED IT DEAD!

Titan Quest and Sacred are nothing but usurpers of His throne, unworthy spawn of soulless developers!!!

...Oh, and Hellgate London is decent, if you ignore some annoying bugs and stutters.
Or he would have, if we were talking about RPG's, and not Hack and Slash games.

God of War is the definitive series, so if you haven't played 2, do it now. Go to the store, and demand a copy of this game. And don't be swayed by their excuses, like "We don't have it in stock" and "This is a shoe store".

Supposedly, Prototype also has a bit of that. Oh, and give Heavenly Sword a rental, its quite enjoyable while it lasts.
I think you might want to look up the term hack and slash.
Diablo 2 is most certainly hack and slash.

Personally, I would recommend Dynasty Warriors 5/6. When I broke my leg, my friend and I played it for hours at a time.

Granted it isn't perfect, but I enjoy Assassin Creed's swordplay. Nothing like giving a crusader a good sock to the gut then piercing his jugular with a hidden blade.

Ninety Nine Nights.

EPIC GAME.
I liked this, traded it in eventually though, never fully beat it because of some crazy last missions, or something, can't fully remember.

Vrex is back with yet ANOTHER mention of Otogi Myth of Demons on the original xbox released in 2002.

Here are some reasons why I like it:

The story is kind of based in ancient Japanese spritual myth and relies heavily on spirtuality rather than violence or tits to present itself. It also doesn't get in the way of gameplay, also the protagonist Raikou in Otogi was a mute so he could never say anything that leads me to hate him.

The art design and music in this game is absolutley beautiful. It compensates for weak graphics at the time of release by instead making a world of beauty awe and wonder. The monsters all look amazing and when they move around it's artistic. The environments are both beautiful and 100% destructable and the lighting effects and great music help create a feeling of legitimate fuedal Japan atmosphere. it doesn't even matter that it doesn't look
ultra real' because the visuals wanted to be anything but.

The combat is unique in that almost all of it is aerial. You jump once, then twice then three times and then can conrtol your momentum to stay in the air as long as possible. You can do this by rushing forward or by attacking enemies who will keep you boosted each hit. Playing Otogi is a rush of fun and adrenaline. This is also balanced by the wide range of weapons and magic at your disposal.

Lots of game time, for a hack n' slash game you get a lot of play time out of it. 29 missions no less and the enemies are always changing per level so it doesn't get tedious. Plus there are some great ideas put in like fighting a blob made of sorrow on a boat, battling a giant flying centipede, fleeing from a crimson headed demon, rescuing insects, destroying giant towers, having to cross a bridge under the protection of the moon and avoiding the darkness and many other ideas that I found very refreshing.

Yeah... give Otogi a try.

If you can forgive the dumber-than-the-actual-zombie-hoard Survivor AI, you can't go wrong with Dead Rising. Infinite enemies, many ways to kill them, don't even need to follow the actual story.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Hacker and Slasher" though you mention your tired of FPS games. Most of the "action RPG" games mentioned are pretty good, and Sacred 2 is right around the corner for release.

Conan and Viking are pretty decent for straight sword based melee action.

Too Human is a surprisingly decent game despite some of the criticisms, though it IS an action RPG and has a lot of disadvantages. One of those games your either going to worship or hate, very few people have middling opinions of it (like I do).

Dead Rising despite how it seems, plays more or less like a "beat 'em up" brawler, though admittedly it suffers from some annoying design flaws (Otis... ugh) and a truely draconian time limit if you ever want to really beat the game.

99 Nights is decent but not incredible, as are most of the Dynasy Warriors/Dynasty Warriors Gundam games. Button mashing at it's finest. 99 Nights being the high point of the genere.

The Naruto games are also surprisingly good (I bought a personal copy of both games in the series despite having not started personal games of them yet). I'm far from being a huge Naruto fan, but it is a decent blend of fighting, platforming, and collection. The combat system not being as advanced as say "Street Fighter" but being deeper than what you'd expect from most brawlers, or "combat platformers".

I have not tried X-blades either on my own system, or someone else's. I've heard deeply mixed reviews of it.

As far as movie tie in games go, the "Beowulf" game was actually reasonably entertaining and playable. It could have been a really good game if they bothered to polish it, but they didn't. It's dirt cheap though.

thats more of an RPG.
I dunno, yes, you're right there is RPG the elements i.e. the levels etc. but the nature of the gameplay and the sheer quantity of bad guys/monsters would, in my opinion, mean its more a hack and slash than an RPG.
the level up, quests and such gives it some RPG elements yes.

OMG thats true. my favorite is Uzumaki Chronicles 2. its an hack n slash rpg. not with leveling, but upgrades where u use "virtue" to level up your stats. and it features an epic boss fight that takes 20 minutes.

This, and Genji: Dawn of the Samurai. Both very artistic, both very authentic to the time periods and both very fun.
