I suggest PMing mshcherbatskaya, who works for HP on the business side but may have a recommendation, or Aries_Split, whom I believe builds and sells computers (probably not laptops, but he probably knows something about them.)
Here is a link to Tom's Hardware chart for mobile CPUs.

Finally, seek out a November issue of PC Gamer, they have a long article on PC gaming. As other posters have pointed out, a decent gaming laptop costs 700 pounds or more. For $900 US or less, you can probably find a laptop with Intel X3100 GMA or an nvidia 8400M - the absolute minimum for gaming - and a decent Core 2 Duo dual core processor. Expect to be limited to older or non-cutting edge games at medium to low settings, but some things like COD 4 and WOW are said to scale fairly well. For $1,400 US you can get the Gateway P-7811FX with a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM (important since you'll be using Vista and sharing RAM), a 17" 1920x1200 screen, and an nvidia 9800M GTS Graphics array, a pretty good gaming platform that even plays Crysis - this is what PC Gamer says is the best deal today in gaming laptops. I don't have any personal experience on gaming laptops, so do your homework.
EDIT: That ASUS laptop NewClassic posted looks pretty damn sweet.
