Personally, I like Avast. Sure, VIRUS DATABASE HAVE BEEN UPDATED can be a little annoying at times, but otherwise it sits there and does the job quietly. Until A VIRUS HAS BEEN DETECTED. Yeah, it has a crappy voice synth.
I hated that crappy synth voice too. Note I said hated - you can turn it off. It's in Settings|Sounds. Unchecking Enable avast! sounds will turn off all sounds. If you want some sound and only want to eliminate the talking, leave Enable checked and uncheck Voiceovers at the bottom of that page.

OT: I've been using avast! (silly exclamation point) for a couple years now. It's free, updates often and I've yet to be infected. It's easy to use and configure and it's not too intrusive.
I have the new version with a nice woman synth.

AVG Free is a huge package, and keeps my system running really smoothly. Don't like McAfee much to be honest, it possesses my computer and uses it as it's *****.
Yup, AVG doesn't fuck around with me.

Why not just buy one?

I use Norton (here comes the hate) and i have never had a problem with a slow system or it being to much of a pain.
Denied Dokken from violating your chicken recently?

I have had big problems with AVG letting stuff though.
Although AVG has a slightly bette interface than Avast! I recommend Avast! simple because it finds more viruses and scans better.
Also, in conjunction use Spybot Search & Destroy. This program does more than spybots, it also picks up malware that pretty much every anti-virus misses. (Note: Spybot Search & Destroy is NOT a antivirus and should not be used on it's own).

100% no internet porn.

As for where I get it from, I don't, never really seen the point in it because I had a long-term partner, and now I've only really just been dumped on my face, I don't see a point in it.

The only reason I was using it is because Norton 09 doesn't work with Win7. Thankfully, I got a copy of Norton 2010, and no longer have to put up with its BS.
FYI if anyone has a copy of Norton '09 still lying about they can get it upgraded to '10 I did back when I upgraded from vista to 7

I use AVG free, I have never had a virus. I do large amounts of P2P file sharing and downloading, so I know AVG works. If it was all up in my face I would have completely removed it; it runs nicely in the background and informs you on things if you tell it to.

Oh, I see. Yeah, you will see the point of it if you're single for a while and too busy to go out. Good luck to you.

There is a hard debate between Avast and AVG. Personally I liked Avast better due to nicer user interface and lower CPU usage. But things are improving quickly, especially in the computer industry, so things might not be the same in a couple of weeks after this post was posted.

But in the controversy happening between free anti-viruses and paid anti-viruses, I still think free are the best out there. I have tried a couple of paid anti-viruses (downloaded pirated copies due to curiosity... oops) and thought they complicated things too much. I simply liked the free anti-virus due to the lack of features. They're simple and does the job well, just like the paid anti-viruses.

On the Matter of MS Security Essentials, only install it if you have no other protection. I installed it with Norton 2010 and took a big performance hit. Needless to say, I no longer use it.
This is why you don't install two AV programs with real time protection on to one system at the same time. The performance hit will be a result of Norton spazzing out at suddenly having another AV set up to run along side it. I can assume this given that MSE has one of the smallest resource usages of any of the AV programs out there.
