I have recently finished my dissertation (believe me, if you have ever don one of these you will know how i feel) and i feel i need to reward myself.

Could i have some advice on a game i could buy.

NOT an RPG or turn based.

Set in fantasy world with lots of fighting is what i was thinking but not compulsary.

Good story line is preferable but i want to spend more time enjoying the killing of evil/good rather than endlessly walking round the towns.

I have not played many mainstream games lately so almost anything is a possibility.

for PC

Thanks, i look forward to feedback!

Yeesh, fantasy worlds on PC that are not RPG or turn-based with melodrama (good vs evil) for a plot and lots of fighting.

If you just want lots of fighting and a general melodramatic plot you can go with any number of shooters.

World of Warcraft.

You can't go wrong with that game.
If wrong means right then I agree! :p
...................anyway.

OT: Theres a good amount of fighting in WoW, along with a very engaging storyline.

You'll have a blast.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is really an excellent fun-romp, although I've heard many strange complaints
Vampire: Bloodlines (there's a lot of walking around the town, but this game has a masterful flow and ongoing community-support)
Overlord 2 (nice humor, wonderful fantasy landscapes to devastate)
Beyond Good & Evil (genre-mix, à la Legend of Zelda, but much its own, very cheap on Steam or GOG.com, many reported graphical glitches on Vista I'm afraid)
Assassin's Creed 2, perhaps
Bioshock 1 and any other shooter

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic maybe?
I was going to say this. It's a pretty fun game.

There aren't that many games that I can think of that fit your description. You can get Morrowind and heavily mod it for the PC.

Yeah they even have the CLASSIC!!! kill {number} of any creature or the even more CLASSIC!!!! find {number} items in a creature.

he said not an rpg.... with a good story, morality choice, set in a fantasy setting, and new...... does that exist? yet?... like within this year?.... for PC?

I looked at some youtube of bioshock and it looks very cool. I wouldn't choose oblivion, I want a more focused story line than that.

I'm not looking for an MMO.

thanks for the feedback so far.

lots of choppychoppy with a sword or shootyshooty with big guns is cool. Nothing trying to be too serious like splinter cell though.

seems good so far, any more thoughts?

Devil May Cry series?

IMO, Oblivion and the entire The Elder Scrolls series are awesome. That is if you bear the old graphics in pre-oblivion games.

I'd reccommend Deus Ex but that's more cyberpunk than fantasy...

World of Warcraft, lots of fighting, don't have to be wondering round towns, so much to do, very sociable game, can do dungeons and raids, plus you can play the economy game if you get bored

If not then Oblivion, get it with the expansions though as the original storyline is very short

Or Dragon Age Origins

or The Witcher(but get the enhanced edition)

Hellgate London - Naf story and unoriginal gameplay, but good if you just want action and a chance to kill random stuff

Fallout 3 - Okay quite RPG, but lots of action and good story

Bioshock - Really good storyline, great game for shooting things and good graphics

Not for this year, but how about Fable: LC? or Dragon Age?

Plus once your out of the Vanilla WoW and into expansions the quests are more varied, esp in Northrend

What about Diablo 2? I know it's "sort of" an RPG, but it's technically a hack n' slasher, and a really fun one at that.
