I need a new webcomic to read

If you don't mind a comic that updates at a slow rate (maybe 20 strips last year, but he's picked up the pace) try "Dresden Codak". For more reliable updates, look for "The Zombie Hunters" and "Nerf Now?!" For some relatively young comics, there's "The Dreadful", "How I Killed Your Master", and "Not A Villain". If you have a lot of time on your hands (like, can drop a week or two), look for "PPG Doujinshi" and "Grimm Tales from Down Below"

I have two recommendations here, if you don't mind sprite comics:

8-Bit Theater: Based very loosely on the NES Final Fantasy 1, the four Light Warriors attempt to save the world, and will most likely destroy it instead due to them all being either evil or incompetent. Already finished, and goes for 1,124 comics (not including stuff with no number.)

Gosh darn it. Beat me to it. Yeah that's my recommend, its a pretty good comic, works better if you're well acquainted with Final Fantasy games, specially the first few however even without the knowledge it's still pretty funny.

I would recommend VGCats however they take that long to produce a comic there's no point in following them other than checking back every few months to see if anythings been added.

 

[War Penguin]

If you're familiar with the fucking weird as hell comic, Gunshow, then you might have heard of the series The Anime Club. If not, it's about four teenaged boys who are in a club devoted to anime. There are only a few "episodes" and it can get kind of NSFW at times [small](prime example: Part One: Mort Brings Porn to the Library)[/small] but I still recommend it. The guy's other stuff... well, just be warned. It can get pretty weird.

There's also Blank It, which is about two guys trapped on a blank but constantly randomizing plane of existence. Updates are pretty slow, but there's about a few hundred pages worth of stuff, so there's enough to keep you occupied for a while.

Next we have Gone with the Blast Wave. It's a shame, really, because the guy doesn't really like making the comics, but they're really funny and well written. It's about two soldiers who were separated from their squad in a post apocalyptic city.

Nextly, we have Moe. Okay, I know you wanted something a little more story driven, and Moe has some story, but it's a comic that goes under the radar for a lot of people and I really wish they would check it out. Moe is a loser. He's dumb, he's crappy at socializing, and he has the shittiest luck. But he pulls through, with his kid brother Bo. At first, it doesn't seem like there's a real story. It's just random comics about Moe in ever changing environments. And it's true. Still, there's still some story arcs that are really entertaining to read. Plus, it has a sense of humor that I find to be very different from anything else I have seen! Check it out.

Lastly, there's Rice Boy. Again, this doesn't fully fit your criteria, as it isn't very humorous. But I figured that it would make up for less of the story than Moe. Well, really, it's more of the world that's interesting. Rice Boy is sort of hard to explain... mainly because I forgot the story. That's because the story is actually pretty forgettable. However, it's a very fantasy heavy world. It has you just wanting to see what's next because the world is so fantastic. By the way, when I say very fantasy heavy, I mean "not ripping off Tolkien this time." Again, the story isn't the greatest feature.

However, the writer has written another story, Order of Tales [small](which is kind of "meh")[/small], and is in the middle of writing another [small](which is actually fantastic, in my opinion)[/small]. The latter, which I recommend more than Rice Boy and Order of Tales, is Vattu. It's about a tribal girl who gets sold into slavery. It's very dark and mature and I love every bit of it!

It's very, very good. And I'd recommend buying it in book form. I read the first three books that way, and I would have read the last three that way if I could have afforded it.

The last one is the only one that centers around a plot. The others just have story arcs every now and then.

Jolly Jack's Sequential Art is good. Its about an artist and his two room mates, a penguin and a cat girl and the crazy stuff they get up to. Its plot driven but it spends a lot of the comic on day to day stuff while every now and then getting into a long story arch.

If you don't mind furry then Jay Naylor has a couple of amazing webcomics. Better Days, which he's finished but keeps on site and Original Life which is currently ongoing. Better Days is about a brother and sister dealing with life from childhood into adulthood. It has funny elements to it but can get very serious and a bit dark at times. Orignal Life focuses mostly on the children of two of the main characters from Better Days and is much more light harted.

The only webcomics I really read are Misfile and Cyanide and Happiness. So read them. Cyanide and Happiness is funnier and Misfile is story driven.

The plot makes no sense, but still... and the guy who did that is coming out with a new comic later this year.
Questionable Content is good as well.
XKCD and Penny Arcade aren't as plot driven, but they're still good. Plus, PA hosts Extra Credits now...

Homestuck is kind of an obvious one, but another one in a similar vein I'd recommend is Prequel [http://www.prequeladventure.com/2011/03/prequel-begin/], particularly if you're an Elder Scrolls fan. Its a bit more adult than Homestuck, but its incredibly funny and very well made, with a protagonist you just can't help but like no matter how badly she fails at performing simple tasks.

There's also Question Duck [http://questionduck.smackjeeves.com/comics/955887/001/] which, while not plot driven gets some really good art and is consistently adorable and thought provoking, especially since a lot of the questions have answers that the comments are happy to provide. No idea when it updates though.

Home of Problem Sleuth and Homestuck, two webcomics which are likely to turn you into a withered skeleton of a man before you're done with them.

I've become semi-obssessed with the internet cult hit that is Homestuck, a very funny and endearing character driven story, I'd give a synopsis but...words fail me on this one. XD I've also recently gotten into Lackadaisy which has a nice setting, very lovingly detailed art and pretty nice story too. So give those a whirl.

I'm just curious as to what you guys saw in Homestuck. Not only is it one of the most poorly drawn things on the internet, but it was just boooooooooring. Does it get interesting more than 30 pages in?

[Lazier Than Thou]

Sinfest ( http://www.sinfest.net/ ) is absolutely fantastic. It's not so much a singular story as it is a bunch of different storyies mingling and going off on their own. It's hilarious, generally topical, and only makes me mad because one of the characters is becoming a feminist. There's a lot of stand alone comics, but also quite a few story arcs. Definitely worth a read. Updates every day.

Atland ( http://www.realmofatland.com/ ) is pretty good. It has an interesting story and it's already been through the first chapter of the story. I don't like all the cleavage and implied nudity, but maybe you will. Good read, it's pretty story driven. Updates Thursdays.

Full Frontal Nerdity ( http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/ffn/index.php ) is a good one, but there's a lot less of an emphasis on a strict storyline, more on story arcs and generally one of comics. Very funny, generally game related.

Goblins ( http://www.goblinscomic.com/ ) is brilliant. I'm not a big fan of many different perspective story telling, but this comic just rocks. It's taken from the idea that "what if some Goblins from D&D decided to roll characters?" There's a pretty big emphasis on rules and 4th wall breaking in the beginning, but that fades to a much more serious tone later on. It's been going on for a while, love it.

Erfworld ( http://www.erfworld.com/ ) is a really good one that I recently came into contact with. I've only read the first book, but it's pretty amazing. A guy gets trapped in his own D&D style world and he has to figure his way out. Good stuff, very story driven.
