Hi all.

I am a 16 year old high school Junior. I co-manage ComedySportz, an comedic improvisational acting group, with another Junior, who is a co-manager. We're supposed to have approximate equal share, but it's not equal.

So, what I do for this group is publicity (setting up Facebook event pages for matches, posting fliers on campus), match setup (finding perfect player combinations, posting the match list with an announcer/light crew/score person, requesting an official referee, lining up another school to play against us, getting the cash boxes for tixket and concession sales, making the match programs, getting a setup crew organized, making the match get started), finances (taking money for registration fees and shirt fees, reimbursement), teaching (teaching games), and peer-to-peer relations (checking with the members to make sure everything is optimal for them). He does teaching and taking wanted positions in the matches (announcer and team captain).

About a month and a half ago, he started to set up a match with another school. After several delays, he informed me it was cancelled.

About 2 weeks ago, as I was hanging posters, he yelled at me for not telling him posters were made.

Tonight, I logged onto the forums as I do every day. I learned that a match was set up with the school my co-manager told me had cancelled the match.

I called my co-manager.

This is basically the conversation that happened. B is me, T is him.

B: Why didn't you tell me that that match was going to happen?
T: I did.
B: You told me it was cancelled a month ago.
T: No I didn't. I said it was reschedualed.
B: You definitely said cancelled.
T: Same thing.
B: Whatever.
T: Why? When did they schedual it?
B: The 8th of December.
T: So it's a bad day?
B: No. You need to inform me of something like this. If we're going to an away match, I need to know.
T: I'll make the signup sheet.
B: I just did.
T: Let me do it.
B: I just did.
T: You need to let me do more work.
B: I'm sorry? What do you mean?
T: You need to tell me what to do?
B: No, I don't.
T: YES, YOU DO.
B: I don't have to tell you to do anything.
T: YES, YOU DO.
B: I don't need to tell you to do stuff which should be automatic.
T: You never let me do anything!
B: You don't use resources given to you.
T: Huh?
B: How often do you log onto the forum?
T: Every other day.
B: Logon records show the last 2 logons were the 23rd of November and the 12th of November.
T: So?
B: And how about the email?
T: I log on every day.
B: I'm pulling up a tool that tracks the IP adresses of the email. It says that your last logon was the 12th.
T: How do you know?
B: I know my IP address. The only foreign one, therefore, is yours. Its last logon was the 12th of November.
T: Fine, I need to check it more. Whatever.
B: Are you really dedicated to the team?
T: I'm setting up a meeting with Mr. Cohen. You never let me do any work.
B: I shouldn't tell you to do any work!
T: Either you tell me to do work, or I resign!
B: I'm not telling you to do work! You need to do it automatically! There's a reason why you were picked! It's because the previous manager thought you could do this stuff automatically!
T: YOU NEED TO TELL ME TO DO WORK!
B: I gotta go.

So, I need to know what to do. On one hand, I lose a friend, but keep a 40-some-odd organization secured. On the other, the organization is at risk.

Get a good lawyer, have him draft up a contract in your favor and coerce your friend to sign it. If he doesn't do what is asked of him within the contract sue him for breach of contract, which will actually make him do it to avoid the lawsuit.

Or you can kill him in his sleep and absorb all of his power. Either one really.

EDIT: Okay, seriously now... I suggest that you work something out and ask him what he needs to do. Make sure he knows what he needs to do and correct him if he doesn't know. Keep him up to date with what you're doing, doesn't matter if he already knew, just say "I'm planning to do..." and follow with what you planned to do.

Ask him if that's okay and give points for why you think it's good. If he's not doing what is needed of him, remind him and tell him what he needs to do and ask him to return the favor should you forget.

That's all I've got right now and I'm not sure if it'll work.

May God help you. Seriously. Running stuff sucks.

Actually serious now, he's obviously not a leading type. You need to take more initiative, and help guide him more. Whether or not you feel he should know what to do, he obviously doesn't. Therefore, you need to help him out.

The issue is he was given quite a few instruction sequences in which info was given for ALL points. He just does't do it.

He seems a bit lazy and irresponsible. I say let him 'resign' (fire him, let him think he's resigning), take up the jobs he was working, and succeed better in your organization.

You may loose a friend, sure, but if you look at it in a business perspective, you have to put the well being of your organization above personal relationships. You can always get a new friend, after all.

Challenge him to Mortal Kombat then take his soul if he loses... It's the only sane solution to this problem clearly...

That or just sack him, he's clearly not a team player who I'll just let you and your company down. Business is business after all...

Seriously, it's probably because you're too young for all this.

Why certainly. Giving random strangers free advice on things is the sole reason why I come to this website.

Change your name. Saying the name "comedysportz" is the rough equivalent of shoving bunnies into my eye sockets.

Don't tell him to do work. Problem solved.

the small and gist is you DID tell him what to do. He did not bother to check his e-mail or log onto your fourms. If he cannot be bothered to check any more than once or twice a month then he needs to be replaced with someone who will do their job.

(may peace run through you)

I can't sack him, unfortunately. We're "equals".
Have a vote by your company to "sack" him
Issue: every member loves him. So a vote to kick him wouldn;t be a vote on ability, but a vote on popularity.
