Im doing a university essay, and my list of references isn't alphebatised (however you spell that). is it possilbe to fnd a way of alphebatising the list using word? if so, how?

the other alternative is doing it manually, but that would obviously be very time consuming.

any help much appreciated

Block each line you need to move, cut and paste. It won't take quite as much time as retyping it.

How many references do you have? If you know your alphabet it really shouldn't take you any longer than it took to make this thread unless you've got over 100 of them (in which case you're working way too hard for a Uni essay and you should spend more time at the bar).

Anyway, I don't think Word is that clever. A smarter move would be to alphabetise your reference list while you're actually making it.

Does the referencing tool alphabetize? if you haven't tried that I would give that a whirl, you may need to copy and paste your references into the tool though, and that might be time consuming.

Son, I am disappoint.

OT: The question is kind of unclear, but just do what the previous comments say.

You didn't just record them in alphabetical order as you used them?

I sure hope you're not studying languages. Or anything computing related.

I'm certain there's an alphabetizing tool in Word, but for the life of me I can't find it. Keep searching! It'll take less time than retyping the whole thing.

I believe that the fastest way to get it alphabetized would be to do a copy-paste all over the citations. I don't believe that Word has a program for alphabetizing paragraphs.

Copy and paste the list into a spreadsheet (like excell) and alphabetize it with that. then brush up on your grammar and spelling.

I don't have word on my PC, but I KNOW there's a sort button that puts them in Alphabetical order. I'd assume easch reference is on a seperate line. Highlight them all and use that function.

You don't say which version you're using in 2007 (and I'd assume 2010) on the main tab, in the Paragraph section there is a button that has an A and a Z with a down arrow. Find that and press it. BAM! Sorted.
