I need reading material

Greetings, fellow Escapists.

I'm heading back to school on August 9th or so for three weeks of training for my job as an RA (read: glorified babysitter for college students). This largely means sitting through boring lectures and a lot of free time in the evenings, so I'm looking reading material to entertain myself with. Preferably in the form of comic books.

Last year, I read through the Walking Dead Compendium Edition and the entire Annihilation storyline (as well as its Conquest sequel). I've already read the Captain America Omnibus editions, so I'm looking for other (good) comics that have a lot of content. I was thinking of picking up compendium versions of The Darkness and Witchblade, but I'm wondering what else I should consider.

So, what are your suggestions?

Not comic books, but I would recommend pretty much ANYTHING by Terry Prachett.

Comic book-wise, I've heard that 52 was fairly good, and I'm not sure if it's been released in collected volumes, but the original Deadpool series by Joe Kelly is pretty entertaining. Also, while I haven't read any myself, several people have recommended Neil Gaiman's stuff to me.

I hadn't thought about Deadpool... I heard good things about that. Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett are brilliant; I listen to their audio books on my trips to and from school (11 hour drive, each way).

If you like more historical fare, Steel Coffins by Herman Werner, Das Boot, Storm of Steel by Ernst Junger, The Magnificent Bastards, 13-Cent Killers, Recondo.

More modern but still on the military theme (and definitely worthwhile reading) are Generation Kill, and Blood Makes the Grass Grow Green.

If you're ever in the mood to read something, and have an appreciation for the classics, and actual humor, then try out Jasper Fforde's excellent novels.
If not, I find Mortal Engines, and anything by Naomi Novik to be a fun read.
As for comics, last time I checked there were some decent graphic novels of RA Salvatore's Forgotten Realms novels.
And V for Vendetta, which you probably already read, but is awesome.
And of course, Rabbi Harvey, but that's for teaching the kids morality.

Geoff Johns' work on Green Lantern is excellent, Secret Origin, Blackest Night and the Sinestro Corps. War in particular.

Sandman by Neil Gaiman is probably the best series I have ever read.

Year One, The Long Halloween, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, and Hush are all pretty good Batman stories.

The nights dawn trilogy, is about 6 thousand pages of awesome.

My new favorite book however, is "The passage".

Holy fuck, that's awesome.

Grapes of Wrath, The Jungle, stuff by H.P Lovecraft, no comics, however. Neil Gaiman books are also a good why to pass the time, and he does have the Sandman comics, but I've never read them myself.

Crime and Punishment, The Stupidest Angel, and An Arsonist's Guide to Homes in New England. Easily my top three books.

There is also, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in graphic novel form.

Well, it isn't a comic book, but "Physics of the Impossible" by: Michio Kaku is a really good book explaining how things like time travel, force fields, artificial intelligence, etc are actually quite possible.

BUT, there is something that combines MY appreciation of Physics, with YOUR interest in comic books.

"Physics of superheroes" by: An author whose name I have forgotten. It tries to explain how certain superpowers are quite possible too.

Guild Wars: Ghosts of Ascalon (it came out like 2 days ago, and is only $7. and it really really good.), The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima.

(sorry don't know any Comic-books, only Books and Manga's, if Manga's count I got some good ones to reccomend.)
