Soul Eater, the whole series is on youtube also! it spews awesomeness, Dr. Stein is like the coolest character ever. i am usually not big on anime but this is one i really love. Another one you should consider is one of the classics, Dragon Ball Z! i saw my brother watching dragon ball z kai the other day and nostalgia set in hardcore, i've been re-watching the entire dragon ball z series again online.

I will say Macross.

Mecha is Japanese-sy. Mecha is cool.

Granted, the main ones you'll see that is released outside of Japan is the original 80's series and the 4 part mini series Macross Plus. DEFINITELY look into Macross Plus, though Funny wouldn't be the word.

Proper suggestion though would be to try Love Hina. Somehow the opening credits just seem to set the tone of the series pretty well.

Tsk tsk. Let's not be introducing them into that genre just yet.
Second that on Macross. The story is pretty good and maturely told.

I'd also recommend Initial D if you want something anime that's 'normal' and has accurate racing terms (to the best of my knowledge).
3rded on Macross, specifically Frontier (I admit, that's the only one I've watched but it's among my favorites...and I've watched a metric shitton of anime).

Souleater

I'm not sure how to describe it... so I won't. Has a Nightmare Before Christmas feel to it. (Pleeeeeease watch it with subtitles and not dubbed)

Elfen Lied

Interesting anime that focuses more of the relationship between the characters than the whole setting (The setting is massive and huge and yet the anime succesfully prevents it from overshadowing the important elements of the narrative). It also have boobs and blood so be warned.

Soul Eater like a few other suggested is pretty good, but the ending made me wanna rage to the extreme(but the only other person who was watching it in my school was only thirty episodes in, and I didn't want to spoil it for them) but my personal favorite anime is Baccano, its not Japanessy in the slightest (it takes place in prohibition-era US) but it ROCKS! Also, watch it with dubs, you get the whole "1930's feel" with English voices (in my opinion anyway)

Well i don't know what your preferences are but

D. Grayman
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya *
When the Cicadas Cry *
Elfin Lied ****#@@@
Trinity Blood
Black Butler *
Gunslinger Girl
Bo-bo-bo bo-bo bo-bo (IMO lots of anime humour is a bit meh so when something as off its hinges as this pops up im intrigued)
Hellsing
Darker than Black *

Can't remember what else i have but some of my friends have raved over...

Wolf's Rain
Devil May Cry
soul Eater
Full Metal Alchemist

i wont tell you their genres cause u can figure it out and it can be a surprise hazza!

Also i put a star next to the ones u should watch dubbed. i know some ppl prefer sbs or dubs but some are just shit when done by the small variety of voices found in japan.
But you might not agree with me on the value of dubs in Elfin Lied... my friend said they sucked but i think they are some of the most real dubs i've ever heard. Even though i can hear where he is coming from.

OK, anime i would really recommend which have NOT been mentioned yet are:

the melancholy of haruhi suzimiya: hilarious, with several genuinely interesting characters, some great voice-acting(especially on the dub: crispin freeman, johnny yong bosch, michelle ruff, and many more beside's) and a really great plot. definitely reccomended.

durarara: funny, cool as hell, with some of the best characters in anime EVER,and one of the best dubs ever (think of all your favorite voice actors, and i can guarantee at least all of them will appear in durarara.)

kissXsis: not safe for work, but well worth a look: the funniest anime i have ever watched. also: it is worth watching just to hear the dad say something: he is THAT AWESOME.

Clannad: not only funny, but original and really, genuinely either heartwarming or heartbreaking. really great, original characters, who despite being so abnormal, are so much more human than nearly any other anime characters. also: the only anime i have ever watched that has made me cry, both from happiness and sadness.

i recommend checking this address:http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/popular-animes

a great site for getting great anime. hope i helped!

Like every anime? More liek some. Bleach, Black Butler, When They Cry (Purely because Reina's(hope i spelt it right) voice is epic)are all better in dubbed. Darker than black, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,D. Grayman is also better dubbed. Its all personal opinion in the end but w/e

Great Teacher Onizuka (touching anime, but it's also very funny at the other times, it's only a tiny bit half-naked for the first 2 or 3 episodes, which are most likely skippable)

Gintama (first episodes are boring, but gets a lot better when all the characters are introduced, especially the shinsengumi.)

and as stated Bo-bobo-bobob-bobo is also a great comedy, and PERFECT if you love randomness, im not kidding, you CAN NOT get any more random than this anime, i almost watched the series TWICE.

GTO and Bobobo are both dubbed, and i'd suggest watching them that way (but that's just me). Gintama has no dubbed, but i think dubbing it would ruin the comedy feel to it.

The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,
Yakitate!! Japan,
Soul Eater

These are all good and made me laugh.

An iffy one is:

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu.

It's more of a romance comedy.

Here are some that I can think of.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Elfin Lied.
Star Driver.
Case Closed.
Cowboy Bebop.
Higurashi When They Cry.
Soul Eater.
Full Metal Alchemist.

Those are all I can think of right now.

While it's not completely related to your previously watched titles, Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The '95 film and the first season of the TV anime are essential. Innocence and 2nd Gig, less so.

Allow me to reiterate: ESSENTIAL.

However, make sure you watch the original version (ideally in HD) in Japanese with subtitles. No, I'm not one of those purists. In this case, the dub is simply bad. Furthermore, the "2.0" re-release only adds intrusive CGI. Not worth it.

The Stand Alone Complex dub is apparently good, that one is up to you.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that there is nudity in the films, I don't know what your club's policies are on content (or if you're in High School or college), so you may want to take that under advisement. Mind you, it isn't fanservice. Mamoru Oshii plays it pretty coldly and often in combination with mechanical bits and bobs, making it feel more like a scientific look on a replacement of the human body. Stand Alone Complex does not have any nudity, yet it somehow has more fanservice (still less than, say, anything by Gainax).

That's how it seems to me, anyway. Others may watch it and conclude "YAY TITS", and that's fine.

Anyway,
K-ON! sounds like the kind of thing you'll like. Definitely the best moemoe slice-of-life show. Why? It's actually funny.

Ichigo Mashimaro is another great slice-of-life show. If you can get past the ultra-cute and somewhat suspicious exterior, it's very funny. The jokes are well-written, and there's real comedic timing.

Dennou Coil. More people need to see this one. A brilliantly-written mystery with some plausible science. No, really. Some of the things in this series may actually become real in the future, assuming there is a good market for AR technology.

If you watch ANYTHING other than FLCL (Furi Kuri (Fooly Cooly) you are a fool.

Hell, you know an anime is good when you have giant robots, guitars, crazy ass fight scenes, without a doubt THE BEST ANIME SOUNDTRACK EVER!!!, a kid with an inter-dimensional portal within his head, and curry.

Not to mention the name of the anime is a mispronunciation of kurikuri which you learn what that means if you pay REALLY close attention to what they are doing in the first episode's "Manga" Sequence.

Basically one of the funniest anime out there without being ridiculous, with great action, and a good message at the end.

I'm gonna throw in another vote for Code Geass.

Also, I just watched Summer Wars. It's a pretty awesome movie, you should watch it.
