So I'm researching how dialogue in video games represents men and women. I need some games that feature conversations between male and female characters to analyse, and was hoping if any of you knew of any that weren't action/shooters? I need to cover a few genres. Thanks in advance.

What types of conversations?

Cause most videogame characters will fall under a certain cliche.

Though you could try Enslaved: Odyssey to the West... that has interesting character interaction.

Star wars: knights of the old republic (1 and 2) feature loads of dialogue between characters of both genders.

Yeah I was thinking about Enslaved, hopefully I'll have the money to get it.
I'm surprised I didn't think of Bioware earlier, RPGs seem like such an obvious choice for this.

You are welcome in advanced.
Are the male characters typical of real men for example. So if a theorist says "men always interrupt more in conversation", I'd look at a conversation in a game and see if the male character interrupts at any point. The basic point of it is to see whether the men and women in gaming speak differently to both each other and their real life counterparts.

Shadow of Destiny is basically all dialogue and a hidden PS2 gem (it's also on PC and PSP). The Metal Gear Solid series has tons of dialogue, Metal Gear Solid 3 might be the best example because of the relationship between Big Boss and The Boss (also lots of dialogue between Big Boss and Eva). Heavenly Sword (developed by Ninja Theory who just released Enslaved) might not be too bad, the main character is female but she doesn't have a male love interest, it's pretty much just dialogue between her and her father and the bad guys, and it's pretty well done. A bunch of JRPGs have lots of male/female dialogue but those games take long to play, and you probably don't have the time.

GTA IV has a lot, although they vary from compliments to "*****" and people getting thrown in trunks.

I'll look into Shadow of Destiny. I considered Metal Gear Solid but was slightly intimidated at the thought of looking through all that writing. MGS3 was quite restrained by Kojima standards (or I remember it to be anyway) so that could be a good one, especially with The Boss and EVA as you said. Thanks for the suggestions.

Uncharted 2, thats pretty close to RL.
FF13 maybe good to disprove.
Another game to look at but it is a shooter is Mass Effect 2 because you are treated and dialog is different by being a male shepard vs. a female shepard.

Yeah I already have Uncharted 2 in my list. It was the first one that came to mind, and is probably the reason I chose this topic in the first place. I love those characters, regardless of what a certain hat wearing Brit may say about Drake.
