I need some help

i want to record what plays on my speakers, apparently i need to have my recording device set as either What U hear or stereo mix. the way i have been told to get this is by showing disabled devices on the recording tab in the sound devices section of the control panel then setting it as default. when i did this, however, nothing changed, nothing new came up; no line in recording and definitely no what u hear or sound mix.
what can i do to remedy this? nothing on the internet factored my problem into their solutions and require my fellow escapist's assistance

What program are you using? Each one may be different. I have Creative Wave Studio.
