I'm trying to figure out which is a better usage of my PowerUp Rewards points:

$25 dollars off any purchase at Gamestop(25,000 points)
or
One free companion guide with any game purchase(11,000)

I have a total of 26,000 points so far. I'm currently broke, but I reserved these games in full(or nearly so) about 6 months ago. The games are Lord of the Rings: War in the North(owe about $8 on it) and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim(paid in full). I have some trade in's available, I'm just trying to figure out which coupon gives me the most bang for my points. On another note, considering it's a Elder Scrolls game their is no way in hell I'm NOT getting the guide for it when it comes out. That's for the most part the only given. Any advice on the matter would be appreciated, thank you in advance fellow Escapists.

25 off. I already got the bundle thing where the Skyrim guide is like $5 so the first option is better mathmatically.

Well Amazon seems to have it at $23-ish ($40-ish without savings) for the Hardcover and $16-ish ($27-ish normally) for the Paperback.

... Yeah I'm confused, so I'll simply say that use the Guide one if your Skyrim Guide costs more than $25 and use the other Coupon if it doesn't.

I wouldn't worry about a Guide for the other game unless you're a big fan, as the Internet will probably do a rather good job of compiling a guide (As well as advice and observations from players over time, as opposed to the rather static info a Guide gives).
In all fairnerss Skyrim will probably have a huge online thingy on UESP, but the Guide seems like a must to you, so that's probably irrelevant.

My advice/thoughts/assumptions anyway.

I can't help but think that buying a guide rather takes the fun out of it, but there's also the matter of, y'know, the internet existing, which makes a paid-for guide pretty redundant.

Get some money off of a purchase.

If you're certain that you will be getting the Skyrim guide, then it simply comes down to how much the guide costs.

If it costs $11 or more, you should take the guide, as it is a cost-effective use of the points. If it costs less than $11, you should take the '$25 off a game' deal. Simple.
