Three weeks ago I had surgery to fix my broken scaphoid in my left wrist and now I am in a cast for 10 weeks. Due to the nature of the scaphoid my thumb is pretty much immobilised and I've tried playing xbox or ps3 but my wrist gets sore and I don't really want to cause any more damage. My last gaming refuge is the PC and I will need some games to make these next 7 weeks fly by. I am a RPG, FPS and Strategy type of guy and do have most AAA titles but I may have missed a few gems. If you guys and girls could recommend a few games for me to play over these next 7 weeks (possibly longer) that would be great!. Also feel free to share any stories of a similar situation you may have been in.

I'm impressed, you've come up with a medical related advice thread on the Escapist which made sense. Mostly they are horribly ill-advised.

You might want to specify if you are right or left handed though.

The original Deus Ex will happily make that 7 week period of boredom shorter.. Psychonauts on steam should be tried by everyone who wants to play a good game that is not a 'twitch-fest' ala every single 'serious' FPS out there.

When I broke my wrist the Civilization series became my best friend. Turn based games in general, something that you can take nice and slow with breaks. Sorry to hear about it, it sucks for a while until you get used to the cast.

I'm left handed but my fingers are free on my left hand so using a keyboard is pretty easy.

Even though I am a poorly console gamer you might want to put your PC specs up so people will know which games your rig can run. Might save you some hassle and clear up confusion :/ I dunno I'm going to bed!

It's possible to play a good number of NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBC, and GBA games with only one hand on a keyboard. It's difficult at first, but not impossible.

Also, turn-based strategy games on PC and old-school JRPG's sound like they're going to be your best buddy for the next few weeks.
Good ideas so far! If anyone needs to know my specs I have a moderate pc that can run most things.... anyway here they are. AMD Phenom dual core 3.2 ghz, 4 gig ddr 2 ram, nvidia gtx 460, windows 7 64 bit

Fallout 1, 2
League of Legends
Men of War (if you don't know it you should definitely check it out. It's basically a small scale RTS war simulator (mostly squad based))

Those will probably keep you busy for a while and can all be owned for like 30 bucks (not including the expansions for Men of War)

If you haven't played it possibly give Last Remnant a go. The PC version is vastly superior to the Xbox version. Less loading delay and they removed some annoying restrictions etc.

Warzone 2100 - Free RTS, extremely good single player campaign. Can't hurt to try, won't cost you anything.

Dwarf Fortress? or Goblin Camp(if the interface for DF is impenetrable to you)

I had quite severe tendinitis in my left wrist when I was a teenager, way too much bass guitar playing. Tiny movements with my fingers caused a lot of pain and made my hand cramp up.

I ended up playing through Suikoden and Suikoden 2 a load because those games could be played with one hand.
