Hey forum I recieved a new I-pod for christmas and I wanted to create an I-tunes account but i don't want to give my credit card number away. So I was wondering if anyone has an extra code from a pepsi or something I would really aprreciate it.

If this goes against the rules of The escapist im sorry just close it.

you don't need a Credit Card for the itunes store I think,
well at least I didn't use a credit card and it is working (for as far as an iPod can work, I would rather sing and bass the song then use iTunes)

you actually have to put a working card number in there which is *assured* to go to the system vault that way if you ever want to purchase musical media, you can (or anything else sold in iTunes). There is no way around it, but you won't be charged so long as you and no one else with your account info buy anything. I've had an account for a couple years and haven't needed that card number. I understand your trepidation, but it's not really warranted by this standard procedure.

Welcome to the future of buying things from your computer, buddy.

Really, you don't need to be a conspiracy theorist, there's no way that Apple is going to steal your money.

I wouldn't be too concerned. I gave a card number to Apple years ago and they never take anything out unless you make a purchase. There are also privacy polices that guarantee they cant give your information to any other company or individual.

I hope you enjoy you're new I-pod. May I recommend this for your downloading. :p

Quick solution mate.

Go to a local store, buy a prepaid debit card for $10, and give them that number.

No muss, no fuss, and they don't have your financial data.

Here's how to create an account without giving away your credit card number [small]because obviously Apple can't be trusted with it[/small]:

1: Open the AppStore section in iTunes store
2: Attempt to download any free application
3: Register when prompted
4: Now there should be a 'none' option in the credit card field

Worked here.

I don't think you need to use a credit card, or even give one... until you actually buy something. Using the iTunes store has a lot of podcasts and trailer- other free stuff. Unless things have changed since I signed up (which was a long time ago) and I havent used it very much. Their User-agreement might have changed.

If not, and you really are against providing CC#, you can always use Songbird, which is basically open-source iTunes... and you can still upload all your music to it, use podcasts etc.
