I have spotted the Dragon Age Ultimate Edition on Steam, for the modest price of 25£ I get Dragon Age Origins, Awakening, and all 9 DLCs. But I've heard that the PC version is buggier and more difficult to control so I ask you Escapist, what do you think?

I was under the impression that the Xbox 360/PS3 versions were infinitely more difficult to control and also suffered from more bugs.

Either way, that price is FANTASTIC for such a package and I got many hours of enjoyment out of Dragon Age. The "tactical overhead" view on the PC version is a lifesaver, so far as I'm concerned. Plus, and this is a little superficial, the game looks leagues better on PC.

I loved the PC version of the game personally, that's a great price for all that content.

Good game, bad price. £18 from Play [http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/16436462/Dragon-Age-Origins-Ultimate-Edition/Product.html].

I also had no problems with PC version, but be advised, there were reports of Euro buyers not getting one of the DLCs that was supposed to be included. I am not in Europe, so I didn't bother to follow up on it. You may want to before you purchase though.

Have it for PC, loving it. Controls are easy, I haven't had any crashes that I remember, and there's the added PC benefit of mods. Furthermore, Steam tells me that I've been playing it for close to 300 hours now. So if I'm any indication, you'll be getting your money's worth.

I have DA:O on both the PC and 360. Haven't had any bugs on the PC yet, a few issues on 360 but I was able to work around them easily. The graphics, UI, and pretty much everything else are better on PC. Plus you get the toolset and can download many mods and add-ins for free. Go for it.

You've heard wrong. Very wrong...

First of all, it's no more buggy than most other game releases, and could easily work perfectly depending on your system.

The control system isn't harder. It's just different. That difference also meant that BioWare deliberately toned down the difficulty on the Consoles, and you will find that you HAVE to micromanage your companions on PC.

Far as reviews and forum posts go, it seems to be the general consensus that the game is more than double the fun on a PC; as opposed to a console.

And on Raigne's note about European versions missing a DLC, that's only on the Retail boxes, and it will be delivered free of charge by digital download for those missing it. It doesn't apply to the digital purchase.

And remember to always check Impulse, Play, etc. before you buy. Steam is most definetely not the cheapest anymore. In fact, I've got retail buys that are cheaper than Steam, on launch day.

Steam support is worth some added value:
-No disc, just double click to launch
-Can never lose your copy due to theft or damage
-auto-update with drivers and general support
-Increasing support of save-syncing

Is it worth another £7 though?

But I'd check this link on the Retail Copy vs Digital Copy debate:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

This lists all the PC games that can have their CD-key entered into Steam to "Activate on Steam" effectively as if you had bought the game on Steam, so the game is forever in your account library.

It can be the best of both worlds.

True words on Steam pricing... I hold out for sales for almost all my purchases, that and CD Key Activation of retail copies.

Still beats the crap out of XBLA or PSN pricing.

In terms of bugs, no, the PC version is not at all that bad. Many small bugs have been fixed with a few patches, and while there are always some problems that persist, they are so small and few that they are ultimately negligible. I have not extensively played the console version of the game, but as far as I can tell it might actually have more bugs than the PC version.

The Ultimate Edition would be a good buy in my opinion, while some of the DLC lacks a bit of awesomeness that you might like, it overall isn't a bad addon, and while it's all bundled at this price I would say go for it over just the regular version. It adds enough fun with the content, as well as replayability, to be worth it. Once you know the story better, you can form your own opinion on how well the content plays into the Dragon Age universe.

And on another note, the PC version has, in my opinion, better controls than the console one. I remember you couldn't pause combat or get the same camera view as you can on the PC, and with some of the meticulous item-locating quests, being able to click where you want your character to go is just more useful. I guess it depends on your preference in play-style, but overall I would say the PC version just flows more smoothly- like this game was made for PC first, and ported to console second. Overall I think you will get more out of it on the PC, if the initial thrill of the game wears off after the first 100+ hours of gameplay (well that's what happened to me :p), then the ability to use the dev-console and mod the game adds a new level of replayability to it. I'm pushing 300 hours of timed played myself, and I don't see that stopping too soon. :D

What? That doesn't even make any sense. DAO is a pure RPG. It's best played on PC. Honestly I don't know how did console players even have fun with the game.

DAO is far better on PC. Its one of the best PC versions of a game thats come out in a long time.

I never encountered any bugs and the interface is 100s of times better than teh console versions.

Its definitely a PC game and not a console game.

I have the PC version and it would randomly crash on me. It was more annoying than anything else, but I still played through it.

Get it. Even if you just own the regular game, buy the Ultimate Edition. All your saves will still be there, and it is about the same price as the single game.

It is less buggy on the PC, you have mod support, and the tactical overhead view.

The ending of the game is still buggy beyond belief though.

The only "bug" I encountered was, as a play session grew longer, it took longer to load each segment. That is after three full playthroughs of the game.

In terms of controls, I have to say that I'm of the opinion (having played the console version briefly as well) that the PC version is, without caveat, the better way to play the game in terms of control.

I uninstalled Dragon Age today. Whee...

More to the point, i've heard that the PC version is better simply by having more playstyle options. Its also more difficult.
