I now have a DS

Due to a serious medical apocalypse with someone in my family, I have become the owner of a shiny blue DS Lite.

I have not touched a handheld since gameboy color, and I only really played Pokemon Red on it, so I am largely out of touch with what is and isn't 'cool'. Since I am now required to drive said relative to and fro - which requires much of my time spent sitting in a waiting room or a local cafe bored with this DS, I would like some game suggestions.

So far I have already purchased Golden Sun 2, Children of Mana, and Glory of Heracles. I intend to buy Pokemon Soul Silver when it comes out with that pedometer.

Did I mention that DS cartridges are tiny?

Either way, I enjoy rpgs, but I absolutely hate tactics games. I also wouldn't mind a quick or mindlessly fun game to play between those time-intensive repetitive turn-based games I love so much. GBA games are also recommended.

While you're at it, please tell me about the game or how spiffy or meh it is. So long as this isn't against some religion of yours, you are welcome to put up a number or letter rating for each game you recommend.

(The family member in question is okay and will recover; I am not some heartless bastard that takes advantage of sick people. They simply cannot drive for the next few months.)

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is good. It's the sequel to Aria of Sorrow on the GBA. Both Metroidvania games.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Elite Beat Agents.

My favorite games on the DS. They are excellent time wasters.

Not sure how to explain Ace Attorney, so here's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Write] the wikipedia page.
Elite Beat Agents is a rythem game, but its really fun, at least for me. Here's its wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_Beat_Agents

I have this strange feeling that I'll be picking up Elite Beat Agents tonight.

The World Ends with you looks good, but I'll hold off until I beat one of the rpgs I currently have.

I noticed that there were some Dragon Quests out for the DS. Are they any good? Or should I wait for DragonQuest 9 to come out later this year? DQ8 on the PS2 was the shit (it was good).

Which Zelda would be better? Phantom Hour or Spirit Tracks? Do they go in any specific order?
(edited a typo in there)

Do you have to pay to play Phantasy Star 0? Or is that some other game I'm thinking about...

The Mario & Luigi games are far better than they have any right to be. The first one was crazy for its time (2004) but is now merely above-average. Haven't played the second, but the most recent (Bowser's Inside Story) is a real gem...funny, surprisingly long, and fun to play.

Final Fantasy 4, Pokemon: Diamond/Pearl, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks (yet to play LoZ: Spirit Tracks so i'm not 100% sure if it's a sequel to Phantom Hourglass) Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles.

New super Mario Bros, just classic platform action, exactly the standard you'd expect from a Mario Bros. game. Plus a few mini games are actually quite good fun.

Yes. Oh yes. If you can get one game, this would be it.

EDIT: Also, I hope whoever it is that got sick gets better soon.

I purchased Elite Beat Agents today. Very funny, quirky game. This will definately be something that will entertain me for a while, and I'm certain that my sister will enjoy it should she ever go on a road trip with me.

Question: Is New Super Mario Bros the same one that was released for the Wii?

Pretty much everything mentioned in this thread.

And I couldn't imagine my DS without a copy of Etrian Oddessy or The Dark Spire nearby. Willing to suspect nobody mentions those.

New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS are considered musts for the console. If you want the best graphics it has to offer, Metroid Prime Hunters is probably it. For the deepest gameplay, go with GTA Chinatown Wars. If you like RPGs you have tons of them to choose from, and you can add any GBA game to that list which gives you tons more. My favorite DS RPGs were probably Sonic Chronicles, and Etrian Odyssey. I got a huge amount of gameplay from the Marvel TCG if you like CCGs, and I got a great deal of fun out of Dokapon Journey--especially if you use your DS to play multiplayer with friends.

I found Spirit Tracks to be the better DS Zelda game, though I wouldn't say that either of them are the best. And while there is continuity between the two games, you don't need to play one to understand the other.

Also, I noticed you said you have Golden Sun 2 already. If you haven't played through the first one yet, you should probably do that before you even touch the second one.
