Yes this is unfortunately true. I work in the industry, and due to the youtube, some extensive pirating of films, and lack of people going to theaters for anything other than blockbuster films, The industry is only going to keep spiraling downward into a repeat of the same slapstick comedy film with different highly popular actors.
I work in the industry today and getting investors to invest in any film is getting to be damn near impossible. Big studios will only produce the big crap that looks amazing but is nothing new story-wise, and the little guys will produce their 3 minutes wig out sessions that get millions of hits for free. Thus leaving anyone in the middle out on the cold.
So before you download that latest film, just realize you are attributing to the decline in artistic expression in filmmaking.
well.
Welcome to the Present.
The Movie goer generation is now moving to the "sitting at home watching things on their big screen tv's - without annoying people ruining it for them".
Seriously.
Getting to a cinema close to me (and back home):
7 ? be it gas or taking the bus.
Takes close to an hour.
Have to be punctual - and if i go by bus i have to take the bus schedule into account too.
Then i am in the cinema, again pay up up to 6 ?.
Have to put up with other people.
can't pause to go for a bio break. have to sit in uncomfortable chairs.
I do not get to choose the language either. Trying to find movies in a non dubbed version is damn near impossible without jumping through so many hoops that one could be a circus attraction.
So, so. I won't pay like 15? to go see one movie in a "bleh" place.
I wait for the dvd.
I would like to watch a new movie the moment it comes out but the hoops....
Suggestion:
Offer me a stream.
I get to watch my tv and older movies via streaming so why can'T you give me new movies?
Piracy? well no change there mate.
I would so pay up to see iron man 2 on my media system. now. in awesome quality. without handy-shaky cam....
See, time and money is something we have less and less off. spending it with a trip to the cinema is wasteful. We just wait for the dvd. (or only go if it REALLY is something we hafta see NAO!)
And of course our tastes change over time.
I would also like to add that after a few thousand years of art - nothing is really original anymore.
Predictability is a curse that comes with time. Sobbing over the fact that we choose to be entertained rather than bored is.... well... so yeah.
