And here it is, about 24 days late and is only being written because I have Math Coursework and no matter how much I try, playing Mass Effect is not justifiable when trying to find a good reason to not do it... I messed that sentence up somewhere along the lines, but it's not part of the review, so who cares.

After searching through my games collection for a game that is half worthy of reviewing I finally found one that I remembered enough about to write something on it...

So I review... Halo 3!

Not really, it's already been done to death by reviewers, not that the actual game I'm reviewing hasn't but oh well.

Gears of War.

For all the lazy people here is a brief summary of what I am about to write in this review, Gears = Good. Graphics = Good. Sound = Good and Gameplay = Okay.

Now here is the meatier version.

I, like any decent gamer should, started with the campaign, on easy mode because I sucked at First Person Shooters at this point. I enjoyed the campaign thoroughly, the cover system was new to me, a jumped up Halo fanboy, yet I still loved it because it allowed for a different type of gameplay. As a note, I will be comparing this to Halo a lot. Rather than running in and charging like Halo almost encourages you to do, Gears teaches you to somewhat value your life, it creates an environment where covering and shooting will be 10x more profitable than charging will be, it teaches you a form of tactics.

The story was a dark, post-apocalyptic, everybody-is-dead-and-the-human-race-is-somewhat-screwed kind of environment, which I loved, Post-Apocalyptica is something I would very much jump on and make babies with, 28 Days Later and I Am Legend were the greatest things I ever put in my DVD Player, *Cough* Not that I own a pirate copy of I Am Legend or anything. But honestly, the story is great, although it doesn't linger too much on the "We're all screwed, I want to die" attitude like most good PA (Post-Apocalyptica) does, but rather it stays around the hard-man badass army soldier attitudes of the Soldiers... In fact, I don't remember having that spine chilling feeling at all whilst playing it, thats something every PA should have.

The sound is great, I lthought the music it played during cutscenes was done exceedingly well and sound during gameplay was okay, although the little jingle it played after every battle got a little repetitive and annoying, but only a mild hinderence.

Multiplayer, the factor that usually is the decider in a game failing or succeeding. Going back to what I said earlier about Halo = Rushing in and Gears = Value of life, this is proved further by the multiplayer, in Halo there is respawn, so who cares if you die, you can just come back, in Gears there is none, so cover appears to be your best friend in a firefight. Because of the high chance of death and zero chance of respawn, you learn to rely on your teammates a bit more, especially in situations of firefights. There is a lot of arguing about the 'noobishness' of certain weapons such as the chainsaw or the grenade tagging, but to be honest I ignore all of this, Epic put it in the game, therefore it's meant to be there. The only thing that annoys me about the multiplayer, is the maps, every map bar two just don't interest me, Gridlock and Canals are the only two worth playing in my honest opinion.

I think thats about it, although I'll probably think of something in half hour or so and just add it on.

Note: This review is purely my opinion, everyone is entitled to one, including you, if you don't like my thoughts or opinion, fair enough, but don't flame. Flamers will be blatantly ignored and will recieve no acknowledgement from me. Constructive Criticism however will be welcomed.

Thanks,
Kitari.

Forgot to add a rating, therefore I rate it as so.
Story: 9/10

PA gives it that excellent boost, but still, could have been delved into a bit deeper, emotion = good.

Gameplay: 8/10

Cover system was awesomely done, once again it was a first for me, besides Perfect Dark Zero, but this was the first one to do it well.

Sound: 6/10

Everything sounded realistic but the music was just a bit off for my tastes

Multiplayer: 9/10

Gears was my waiting room for Halo 3, H3 was a disappointment to me, so Gears of War became my best friend.

Overall: 8/10 (Not an average)

I promised another review... ...And get no reaction whatsoever...

Lol come on anything? I would suffer mental illness if MGG=REVIEWS got more replies than I.

Don't worry mate. MGG gets so many comments because people hate him.

I loved gears of War aswell, but I jumped into hardcore when I first got it and then went to Insane. I would say I've clocked up maybe 15 days on MP for that game. I don't agree with how you said only 2 maps are any good. I think they are all original and give different play styles.

Well I suppose the maps are all original, but when looking through games I tend to psychologically only go for ones with Gridlock or Canals, Elevation is okay, but I guess it's just those two are my favourites, anyway, should I bother copy and pasting this into the USer Reviews section or just leave it here?

The only thing I disliked about Gears of War was the stone-cold stupid AI my squadmates employed. It doesn't help me any when they rush right up to the muzzle of an emplaced Locust turret and beg for some hot lead to eat.

Other than that, it was surprisingly deep for a console game (at least to my jaded PC-gamer worldview), but once finished, there's not a whole lot of replayability to it. The absolute need for cover, suppressive fire and tactical movement were a breath of fresh air. If only my squad would start acting smarter....

Good review and well written, keep at it and if you put it in the actual review bit next time (and put the game name in the subject) you'll probably get more response.

Anyway yeah Gears was a great game but i did find the single player got a little repetitive after a while, multiplayer (V's & Co-op) rocks though!

Don't be so hard on them. They were probably the best non-invulnerable sideckick I came across in the game.Do you really want to compare them to Half-Life Rebels or Halo Marines? Unlike those retards, Delta wouldn't have much trouble taking down a group of enemies.

Granted, there were times that Delta Squad actually left me saying "Damn, guys, nice one there" (though honestly, you're not setting the bar high with your examples; the City 17 Rebels and Halo's Marines are barely one step up from Imperial Stormtroopers). Still, when you crank up the difficulty and there's Locust everywhere, things go from hard to impossible when all three of your squadmates are out of action within the first ten seconds of the engagement.
