Yep, asshats are everywhere. No disagreement there.William Ossiss said:Oh, no. I was just using the phrase I've seen/heard people use before. People have called themselves that at one point or another, either jokingly or in a serious tone. I was alluding to the fact that no matter what online community you go to, you will eventually meet people that act like complete twonks. The majority of people I play online with don't act like that. I always try to lead by example, and if trash talking occurs I tell them to simply prove themselves through their skill. Then, if they attempt to spout off insults, I give them the old 'good game' and it throws them for a loop.
Well, if new games were cheaper if purchased online (they don't have to manufacture, package, ship, or discount for retailers with digital copies so screw them for maintaining the same price as retail) and if the prices generally followed a downward trend at similar rates to retail stores then yeah, it wouldn't really be that big of an impact. So, if xbox live's store had regular discounts... people wouldn't have been so upset at the always online drm? I never did like what they were doing, seeing as how (before I knew anything) I had chosen that as my primary console for the generation. I wanted to continue my gamerscore. When they switched it to 'it can now be offline' I was relieved.
But as is, the price is set at the highest rate and falls slower than anything else. Let's take a quick look at a game.
Do you remember "Remember Me"? [http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Remember-Me/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343082f] That came out for the 360 in August of last year and was entirely forgetable. On the Live store it's $40 to download. On Amazon, it's less than $20 even with two-day shipping. On PC, it's $26.
That's just one example, The first game I picked out of the list that I remembered. Now on Steam, it's $50. But come a couple months and you'll likely be able to pick it up for $10 on a steam sale just like all the other games you could have gotten over the years of steam sales. Xbox live? They may discount it by $10 at most and it'll still be over $30 six months from now.
So when Microsoft tries to get rid of the preowned market, that means we're at their mercy for game prices. That is a probem and will continue to be an issue until/unless their store becomes attractive to buy from. I don't know if that will happen unless Steam's numbers start getting released and it does well.
