Two California Safeway stores were unlocked during Christmas Eve and day, and people shopped and left cash for purchases, while stores were unsupervised.

A man walked into a Safeway store on Christmas Day in Roseville, California and even though the store was closed and unsupervised, people were shopping inside the store. He called the police. The police found no looting, but small piles of cash left at the registers for purchased items.

Surveillance video showed the Safeway employees locked the main doors at both of the Safeway stores. But customers were able to push the doors open and get in, said Susan Houghton, Safeway spokeswoman. Both stores were 24 hour stores and are not normally locked, but a glitch in the locking system left them open.

I just saw this on the news and I gained some new hope for humanity. The only thing I wonder about is if the customers remembered to include tax.

It's definately nice to see something else than the utter stupidity we've been hearing about lately.

People are generally nice, it's just the extremely stupid ones who get all the media attention.

They obviously had the mind set of "Oh, well it's Christmas, so why not!" Any other time of the year and the stores would be milked dry. I'll bet anything on that. This supplies no faith towards humanity for me. I'm a cynic though, so I guess it can't be helped. I lost my faith in Humanity a damned long time ago.

Very commendable behaviour.
[sub]See, that's the kind of attitude everybody would need to have for Communism to work. [/sub]

Very interesting. That wouldn't happen in my city. There would be some people who would pay and others to rob it blind.

Sounds like they simply pushed the doors open. That's not really breaking in, the doors didn't properly lock.

That's actually incredible . However it brings me to question these people's sanity. I mean, nobody on the planet is that honest, are they? I am impressed. Yes sir I am.

no store keeps money in the register, you'd be taking the piles of money or getting tackled by some big dude while you attempt it

I've done this before with a drink bar, just difficult trying to not look like a thief while trying to find a place to stuff the money. I just ended up putting it in the fridge
