So, I was happily posting on my favourite site, the Escapist, when I notice a little gray hairy creature crawling on the back of my FAX machine. I immediately shot up in panic, and started looking at it from a distance, contemplating what to do next. I then noticed that this particular spider had the ability to jump, so, panicking, I decided to call my mum to help me out ( I know).
I watched as she took a piece of toilet paper from the bathroom and grabbed something behind my laptop, after which she proceded to flush it in the toilet.
Thinking that there was nothing to fear anymore, I cautiously walked back to my computer, but before I could sit down on my chair, the same fuckin' spider jumped in front of me from behind a pencil case. I then proceded to jump in the air and run away screaming like a little girl.
The spider was then taken down in a joint effort by my mum and dad, but still, I am now left scarred, afraid of going back where the "attack" happened and somewhat embarassed.

So, did anything similar ever happen to you? Are you an arachnophobe? Do you have any kind of stupid phobia?

I used to have a mad fear of wasps. Proper spheksophobia where I'd literally freak out if I saw them. I've overcome that fear now, which probably stemmed from having seen my sister get stung INSIDE the ear by one. Nasty.
Also if a spider could jump, I'd get the hell out of there myself :p It probably wanted to be your friend :D
EDIT: although I'm usually the guy to catch spiders with the cup and paper trick. With the nasties I've seen in our wood shed, most of the ones people describe as huge just look pathetic in comparison.

Sitting behind computer, computer right next to wall, look to my left and see one big assed spider right next to my head. It's huge, it's black, it's hairy and it was scary. I ran, yelled for mommy and cried all night long

Wait. You're not a little girl? Hmmm....

I get scared when on boat/scooter in areas where water is so deep that it just looks black.

I wouldn't even enter a room if I saw a spider there. Just try to imagine the horror of seeing a big, fat, black spider walk under a shoe that was between me(using the computer) and the door(few feet from the computer)
I killed it, but I was too scared to move, so I had to wait two hours until someone came home and removed the spider for me. :(

Old man took us out to a bay we'd just seen as having more than 30 sharks in it, in a 2 metre low sided tinny. The day after we watched jaws. The bastard.

But a spider story, not of fear though I was almost a little girl after the fact. Sitting on the floor reading, feel something on my ankle which is drawn up under me (I'm sitting on my legs coz it's cold and I don't own a couch at this point) when I feel something on my ankle. Reach down and crush whatever it is with my fingers, then take a closer look at the goddamned red back spider that had just ran across my foot. I freaked and wouldn't sit on the floor for the rest of the day.

Don't worry man. Here at the Escapist, we don't judge =D

I have .. Uh .. I'm not sure if you can call it fear, but when I see bugs or stuff I can't do anything before I remove myself from that area. I just constantly shrugs. Bugs is one of the worst things I know of. And I'm allways terrified of the thought of one of them being on me. God, I hate bugs

I also have something that could maybe resemble as a irrational fear of piercings and ear-rings and such. I hate looking at it, as it makes me slightly noutious. And if it's on the table, I have to remove it without touching it directly. I'm not able to focus on anything if there's something like that lying on the table. And if I'm as unlucky to actually touch one of these terrible things - then all hell brake loose. I throw up at almost an instant. I hate piercings and such ..

well. i used to be the same. I would jump at anything with more than 4 legs, and they still creep me out. But a revelation came to me the day a wasp landed in my hand, and before it could sting me, with my awesome video game reflexes, broke it and ripped off half its legs. Then I understood. Worst come to worse, I get bitten and some unknown allergy kills me, but more often then not, I kills them.

the best way to get over your fears is to face em directly.

No phobias in particular, but I can tell you about a nasty, slightly embarrasing incident in my own house which made me run out of my own room.

Right, imagine the following: It's spring. Flies have not yet emerged, no bugs whatsoever. I'm going to bed, late night, probably 1 or 2 am. I lay down, but all I can hear is the frantic buzzing of two big black flies. So, armed with a copy of The Phantom I rise to annihilate the two petty excuses for creatures. *Swat* one down, proceeds to the next....

Then BAM!

All of a sudden 200 freakin' relatives of the suckers escapes from behind the wall and ceiling. I shrieked and ran out like a bat out of hell, and slept in my brother's room that night. The next morning I was armed and dangerous with the daily newspaper set to destroy the pests. Sadly, they were already laying dead on my floor, carpet, window and bed. *Shudder*

I really do not like spiders, though if there's no choice I can bring myself to capturing them. This however does involve me very very very slowly edging towards them with a glass (I won't kill them), freaking out whenever they move, and holding the captured spider as far away from me as possible when it's caught.

I also dislike goats (got chased by one when I was little), owls, birds of prey in general, and horses.

Ive never really had debilating fear, but as a rule I dislike heights....so naturally as a kid I'd go on every high rollercoaster or ferris wheel available to me. Don't do that so much anymore, I never got over my dislike of heights but I don't feel to need to "get over it" anymore.

Same here! Damn you, Lullabye! Damn you! And I was eating candy as well =(

Edit:
Oh! I remembered something else by reading Chapper's answer.
When I was a kid, I went to the doctor. And I saw pictures of bees and flies inside people's ears. You have no idea how much that freaked me out. Worse was it when I fell off my bike once. And I was so sure that a bee had entered my ear, and was going to live there. I kept insisting on that I constantly felt his wings inside my ear, and that I could hear buzzing all the time ... That was terrifying

well I reckon alot of this spider-fear has to do with where you live.
For example if I lived in a country where spiders can KILL I'd be scared
However the spiders here are safe enough, except for the rare black "kingfisher" widow

That would freak me the fuck out.

Something similar happened to me, once, though; only it was a snail and it exploded into maggots. HUNDREDS of huge, green maggots.
