Remember my first thread was about games being too easy these days? well i was wrong..dead wrong. Cause recently my sister told me of a interesting game thats been giving her a hard time so i rented it and gave it a shot. I was amazed how difficult its was, i mean sure i didnt think much of it i started it but when i met my first boss my jaws dropped to the floor. Call me crazy but ill probably be spending more time on this then Fable 2. By the way the game it Dead Rising

from what i have heard dead rising is as hard as you make it. You can download a pretty well upgraded suit for free from xbox live and ive heard that helps quite a bit.

The thing is, it's not that games are too easy these days, it's that games are easier than older games. The last time I played a truly insanely difficult game (besides Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin on Crazy Mode: Level 1 limit) was on the PS1 (Oddworld: Abe's Exodus).

The downloads (as with all clothing in that game) are completely cosmetic. they do nothing towards making the game easier.

One thing i dont like about this game is that if your going for 100% completion you cant afford to screw around i mean you have to make a timetable on people your going to rescue to psychos you have to fight. and the thing is the devs made this game look like a open world but with a load of restrictions

Dead Rising is set up so you have to play it over, and over, and over and over again before you can make any progress. Because of that, it makes DR a great throw-back to the old games where you'd have to do just that to beat them.

Yeah dead rising was hard. And you had to play through a few times to really get any of the achievements. But does it really compare with attempting to get a single platinum trophy in timesplitters 2 arcade mode, Because that was insane... Or maybe it was because i was young and had rubbish co-ordination

See Dead Rising isn't hard because it's hard it's hard due to bad game design. Seriously I wonder if they just tried to put as many bad concepts into 1 zombie game. Capcom needs to learn you don't play zombie games for the story.

Dead Rising really wasn't that hard. It's not that easy, but we're getting shockingly used to games where you only die once or twice, or because the ally AI has ballsed up (looking at you Halo 3).

I was finding difficult then I thought, I'm clearly going about this the wrong way. Spent some time wandering around the mall, experimenting with juices, abusing book combos. Then it suddenly became very doable.

As a piece of recommendation, find the gun store ASAP. It's down an ally way and the psycho boss is a ***** BUT once you've cleared it = bonanza! Also, small chainsaws + book boosts = win.

i totally agree with you some of the controls are badly made for example firing guns is a pain in the ass.the only time i found firing guns useful was when im trying to kill the crazies. other then that gun suck simply because of the controls

Like what? The game is designed to be reasonably hard otherwise there wouldn't be time limits.

I never found that. The auto aim works wonderfully for clearing the halls with a shotgun and the sniper rifle auto aims to a zombie's head anyways.

Putting a timer on you is one. Having to be at places at certain times or else is the other. The game is punishing you to much for not playing the story. It says you can avoid the story but you cant because the story blocks off some portions of the game until you do it. This game missed the point. Also having to grind xp to even to do early portions of the game. If your going to promote you can mess about in the mall at least make it easier to access the full mall in enough time in those 6 hours.

Seriously I don't think a perfect run was meant to be done with the story. I actually found it a particularly unique game experience. All these sandbox/free roaming games have no real sense of time. In Dead Rising, every minute counts. I enjoyed that.

If you had to grind exp to survive the game early on, you're doing something wrong. It's not that difficult seeing as all you're doing is running around most of the time. As long as you have a few orange juices stacked for the bosses its fine.

Hey. Try S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Clear Sky or S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl.

Very hard games until you learn how to play them properly. Clear Sky on Master difficulty is nigh on impossible to survive in.

My friend and I were trying to get all of the achievements for Dead Rising. We stopped. I think we ended up with about 30 of them. The reason we stopped? Lets just say that getting 8 girls to follow you through the entire mall, only to have one of them killed by one of the SWAT members was frustrating... enough to quit the game indefinitely.

Dead Rising is a great game. Fairly decent replay value as well. I wouldn't call it Hard though. It's challenging and all but not ball breakingly hard and frustrating or anything.

I will admit that it does suffer from the odd bit of bad game design but it hardly cripples it.

What old games would you consider "hard", exactly? I have my list but I doubt it even resembles anyone else's list:

Marathon
Stonekeep
Eye of the Beholder II
The first half of Gothic (after that it gets easier)
Hexen

I still haven't managed to kill the Dahaka in the PoP: Warrior Within alternate ending.
