So today I was trying to calculate how much my graduation ceremony cost me in total. The hiring of the robe and hat was £40, and photographs were £100 (which were the cheapest you could get). Then I had to pay for guests tickets which came to £50 for two. The dress I wore cost £60. So altogether for one day (actually wasn't a day it was only a few hours) I paid £250!! And now I'm getting emails of some random photographs they took without me knowing and asking if I'd like to buy them. The cheapest one is emailed to you and costs £10, for ONE picture.

What's the worse you've been ripped off?

That sucks. I honestly would think you should get that stuff for free, you know, considering you pay so much for uni.

Haven't really had many times where I've felt completely ripped off. There was a time when I was 8 or so when I could put my christmas money together to buy a game. My brother convinced me to get Perfect Dark, which was like £50.. even though we needed the expansion pack, which was like another £30 or 40. You could only play like 1 on 1 multiplayer without the expansion pack and nothng else.

My graduation is Friday. I'm not paying for all those damn photos. I'll just bring a camera and take some myself. I have to hire the robe though. £45 for a day's hire. Bull.

You think that's a rip off? Wait until you get married.

The fact is that photo and outfit companies rely on things like graduations, weddings and funerals for most of their income and yup, they charge out the ass for it. I had some friends that got married a while back and at their wedding they bought a bunch of those disposable Kodak cameras and passed them out to everyone. It saved them a butt-load of money instead of getting a "professional" photographer. Not to mention the photos are more fun and personal when taken by your friends.

Now a days everyone has cameras on their phones. Keep that in mind when it's time to tie the knot. :)

hmm, well I bought some Skullcandy headphones that broke after 2 weeks of use (when I put the ipod they were connected to in my pocket, you know, like how people do when they're walking along). They were on sale (£17 down to £12) but still not worth that. You'd think a company that's renound for making good quality products would actually make good some quality products that but oh well, live and learn.

yeah, I don't make purchases I KNOW I'm going to regret.

As for myself, I'm struggling to think of such an occasion. I payed £20 for Far Cry 2, and it turned out to be worth about -£5. Does that count?
Hehe, its got major problems but if you're bored and have a few days off you can complete it fairly easily. It's not that bad, just make sure you have a sniper with you.

A Funeral is a funeral in itself. Casket, preperation of body, ceremony, etc...

I had gotten this Rogers Wireless (Cell Phone Company) package that let me make my own ringtunes for free. So I took my favourite song, cut it down to a ring tone, and then hit the button to transmity it VIA cable link to my phone... What does it do? TEXT it to my phone and charge me $75 in data transfer fees for a 10 second ring tune.

At my brother's graduation ceremony I was charged $40 for the worst pasta I've ever had.
That and the fact that his class managed to raise over 5,000 dollars in funds, paid for the ceremony and had left over money and they were still asking for more 'donations'.

I got ripped off at KFC once. $20 for a bucket of 20 wings? One dollar per wing!? It didn't even fill me up and all I had left were 6 bucks for the movies. I had to ask my friend for some change to pay for the sales tax on the ticket.

Well, I used to be really into Gundam, and I wanted to be an action figure from it.

There were some cool ones on Ebay for 10 bucks, which was half my money at the time, but then I saw something that appeared to be 15 of them, for 20 dollars. It was all my money, but there were so many...

When it came in the mail, it was these weird, really thick trading cards that came with 3 inch tall poorly painted figure that literally broke all on their own. Each card switched languages several time, mid sentence. The only English words in the whole thing were: "Beware attack of Washing Machine Robot Group, very not safe". Fucking thanks, Ebay.

Yeah it's expensive but it's mostly a ceremony for the parents so that they can see you graduate. I know I'd rather have them mail me the diploma and forgone the whole thing and its 100$ for a low-quality gown.

The most I've ever been ripped off? I bought a couple of full price games that I never finished before.

Yeah but the photographs are the only thing that will exist down the line. I guarantee that in some attic there a photographs of your great grandparents wedding. Sometimes the only evidence of somebody's existence is their wedding photos. You shouldn't skimp on the photographer. Do you really want to look back on the day with your grand kids and only have grainy cell phone pictures taken by your inebriated friends?
(I am pretty biased on the matter, but will agree that people charge way to damn much when they suck.)

Sucks to hear it. I paid nothing for graduation: I reused my brother's old gown, and fuckall if I have an '09 tassel at a 2010 graduation. I was not about to pay $75 for a half-inch piece of plastic with two numbers on it attached to some danglies if I could get away with a different pair of numbers that no one would notice anyway.

Grainy? The latest cell phones take good quality pictures. I don't know where your getting these grainy ideas from. The photos in my attic, they're grainy. However I still cherish and enjoy them as part of my family history.
