So... in a bizarre twist of fate (or clever marketing), Vampire Weekend's latest album [http://ithinkuracontra.com/] is recieving the viral marketing treatment. ithinkuracontra.com is the website, and at the moment there is a countdown timer (everybody loves a good countdown timer). To what exactly? No-one knows? But it's interesting.
I like Vampire Weekend, so this will of course interest me. At this moment, the website with timer has it's own internet page that I keep checking back on. But what I think is the best part of this advertising is the mystery behind it? If I knew what would appear at the end of this timer, I probably wouldn't be bothered. But it's the intrigue that develops that makes me excited.
Viral advertising is pretty new, and for a band to use it to market an album is a first (at least, I think). Nevertheless, it shows brains and I'm now fully hyped for this album, without even knowing anything about it. Perhaps that's just proof of how mystery in advertising works.
Note: At the time of writing, the timer is 0:00:42:32
