Well, my brother and his friends got me into this game called "I Wanna be the Guy" and I have to say it is amazing. I mean, it is the hardest game I have ever played, easily bypassing every NES game I've ever played. Besides being hard, it's really fun too. You will spend weeks of your time playing this. Yes, I understand not everyone likes this game, and at least two people are gonna flame this subject, but I know it's worth talking about. I posted a link here. IGNORE where it says masochism in the title, it's just trying to be funny.
WARNING: The game is 70 Megabytes!

All you have to do is sexually abuse a fellow male, hell if he likes it, he'll make it worth your while. ;]

EDIT: Oh sorry, I could of sworn that said 'Gay' my mistake.

I think this was brought up in a previous post...

First game in a long while that made me scream in anger at a screen. Most of the game is just NES-style memorization and timing. Probably didn't help that I hate using the keyboard for action games.

But, at the same time, I did enjoy it. Portions of it just made me laugh at how I died.

I've downloaded it and played it. It was a bit of fun here and there, but really the game was made solely to kick you repeatedly in the nutsack.

This game is probably the most sadistic thing since Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Mode. The creator just had to come up with SO MANY WAYS for you to die.

And the default controls are pure and utter bullshit. Maybe I'll do a full-fledged review of this once I beat it.

Yeah, you get used to the controls, I mean it makes sense for jump to be shift, cause the shift key will spring up faster cause it has less mass. Yes, he purposely made you to have to beat one really hard thing, only to get tripped up by one small thing right after that section.

I played for a few minutes and you like explode when you get killed. Once I'm done with my research paper and other school work this week, I'll try playing more of it.

Eh, I tried it, I hate hate hate those kinds of "reflex" games...

I prefer La-Mulana a LOT more, a lot closer to the hardercore 80s games (like Castlevania), with actual puzzles/riddles(gasp!) that just make me want to headdesk repeatedly. Plus it's freeware... I found it and the translation patch (it's a Japanese game) here:

If you do try it, READ THE MANUAL. Seriously.

Yeah, I've beaten two bosses in IWBTG, and I'm on Dracula now. I beat him, but he killed me as he was dying, so...I gotta do it again.

This game makes me feel like foaming at the mouth at the very MENTION of it. I've completed up to the second boss, but when I was told to go back to the first screen again and find other ways to go through the game, I just...gave up. Seriously.

The Evil...The EVIL...

I got the game a couple weeks ago when a I found video's of it on Youtube. Some of the area's make me want to track down the creator and force him to eat pages of the code used to create the game. Generally the best hint out there is to take breaks when you get stuck for any extended amount of time (100 plus deaths).

Good god this game is harsh... It just loves making you fail, doesn't it? Some of the touches in it are pure genius though, like when you go into the Zelda cave with the sword to "help you on your journey". Anyone else a total idiot like me and jump straight into it? Also, Dracula's wine kills you- awesome :)

Although I never made it more than I think four screens from the start (or past Mike Tyson in another direction), I deeply love this game.

It also makes you realise how absolutely crappy game design used to be until about ten years ago. We only put up with it because most of us were kids and learning through trial, error, frustration, and massive waste of time was sort of second nature for us.

Personally, I find "I Wanna be the Guy" to offer a false sense of being challenging by dumping a bunch of arbitrary bullshit atop their players. It becomes more of a game of trial of error and memorization than anything else. It bores the snot out of me that way, and I regard people who become really good at it as being complete tools for its authors: they think they're being challenged, but they're actually just being strung along by their egos to dance to the authors' tune. Still, it does have some neat sight gags - it's not without pop-culture artistic merit.
