Wasnt there an extra credits episode on this?
This is not a black & white situation.
Bethesda has valid reasons for this lawsuit.
EDIT- clearly hadn't, but i had heard that podcast.

I've spoken to relatives who work in entertainment law and friends in the game industry.
I agree this is not black and white, but I disagree that their reasons are valid.

I have made up my mind.
I'm not asking you to follow me, I won't hold it against even my worst enemy for continuing to support Bethesda; but I won't.

(As a side note, the dev team working on Oblvion, for their xmas bonus, got a huge cash bonus as a reward for how well Oblivion did.
The team that worked on Fallout 3, for their xmas bonus, got t-shirts.
That's not really relevant here, it's just pretty fucked up.)
If you don't even went a talk about this situation then why bother making a damn topic. I always hate these self imposed whining topics to be honest. If you this makes you don't want to buy a game then I hope you don't buy apple products for the lawsuits the love to use (Any one remember the slide to unlock thing they brought up).

Oh are you using Facebook, because they copy right the use of Face in a social network site if I remember right. So they could sue someone for making FaceMe the social live web network site...that's a good idea...

Well if you lived in England you'd have long ago given up living, from lawsuits in Water companies, phone companies and so on left, right and centre. It's always happening, just not in in the public eye.

The thing is the courts will be on the side with the most money, always, so what some out of this is going to be a fantastic waste of your time. Anyway, I like the idea of the game being called 'Rolled Parchment', has more character than the shitty and pretentious name 'Scrolls'.

Your logic is something like this.

Imagine this situation

EA Sues some company for a moronic reason. You decide you will never buy Bioware products ever again because of it.

Bethesda game studios makes the games, Bethesda softworks are publisher and are the ones suing I presume.

I honestly don't care about the court issue at all. EA have done worse and I still buy Bioware products...

I, on the other hand, don't give a crap. I will buy Skyrim and I will have a frickin' awesome time. You're just hurting yourself by refusing to buy it.
Did something simular before though. Quit purchasing the new Guitar Hero games, but it wasn't because of a legal dispute. I got sick of them pushing out new games all the time, each more horrible than the last.

That's an over-reaction. Notch himself has stated on multiple occasions that that's not necessary, and that he himself is still buying the game regardless of what the outcome of the case is. If the victim's okay with it, I'm not going to go martyr myself for no reason. That being said, I'm probably going to buy Skyrim pre-owned. It's not entirely to do with the case, I'm not exactly rolling in money at the moment, but the lawsuit is certainly why I chose it over all the other games I'm interested in getting in the upcoming months. Even if I do buy it new, I'll be getting Scrolls on day one, just to support Mojang.

You do realise this is not Bethesda Game Studios who are suing; it's Bethesda Softworks (the original division who publish New Vegas). Not even the publisher of TES (Zenimax). Bethesda Softworks are your so called "crooks" and Bethesda Game Studios have no part in this legal dispute.

So you don't agree every time you hear "scrolls" in the gaming world, you don't think of TES? That's what it's about. I wouldn't blame 343 should a game come out called Planetary Rings and they file a court case for like-names.

I find it funny that you're doing this, even though Notch himself said that this very thing was silly. I'll be busy slaying dragons, you have fun. I don't know what kind of ridiculous moral high ground you think you're on but I don't quite understand why you've taken such a drastic action that ultimately harms you a lot more than Bethesda, who's dev team (those guys that made the damn game) had bugger all to do with the lawsuit.

Oooh, so now we've got Team Mojang vs Team Bethesda Zenimax? Are there t-shirts to accompany this mind-set?
Then I'm throwing my lot in with Team Bioware.
Fix'd

Also I'm going with Team Bioware. Though I do want my shirt >.>

Cool story, bro. I won't be buying nuclear materials.

I will be supporting them, because they make bloody entertaining games, and I couldn't give less of a shit about Mojang.

Is this what you expected peoples reaction to be?
If you don't want to buy it, there's got to be an boycott somewhere.

Look at it this way, Bethesda is the name of the company doing this, while Bethesda Softworks is the name of the company that actually made Skyrim. The game itself (the people who made it etc.) has nothing to do with the overly zealous corporate branch causing these court problems past some copyright definitions. Do you think you're going to see Tod Howard in that court room being a dick? Well you won't. If you want to punish yourself by not buying Skyrim over some moral conviction, fine, but know that it accomplishes absolutely nothing on any scale other than you missing out.
Bethesda is also the name of the company who will get money if you buy Skyrim. How is "it's not the dev team, it's the legal team" even a defense. Talk about apologists.

I won't buy it because I am saving money for a new PC... to play skyrim.

And your reason is stupid, Bethesda legal team is not the same thing as the Bethesda development team.

Huh. I expect that since you feel so strongly you'll be researching every company-behind-the-company for the products you buy so that you don't have to support bad business practices. Get ready to take forever at the grocery store and give up things you've cherished in the past!

I'll support Bethesda in every way. What they do with their lawyers is no business of mine, and if they continue to make good games, then I'll continue to buy said games. In all honesty, the only thing that could make me NOT purchase Skyrim is if it gets bad reviews.

It's a copyright issue, the copyright laws world wide are kind of a pile of shit and need major revisions, unfortunately the only changes that ever happen just add on layers of shit.

Bottom line Bethesda has to defend it's copyright, and in a real world sense most non gamers will probably confuse 'Scrolls' with 'The Elder Scrolls' by name alone, if only because they are to stupid or uninterested to care.

Majong will probably be forced to add something to the name, like a sub title, and then both companies will go on their marry way.

It's not going to stop me from enjoying wither developers work. As Notch himself said "lawyers being lawyers".

I respect your reasons for not doing so.

That said, I've already pre-ordered the fucker and I'm moist with anticipation for it. Even if it's only as good as Oblivion, I still want the designers to have my money for their accomplishments, even if it means a few ass-wagons get a cut.
