I was wondering the other day, why don't homeless people commit crimes so they can go to jail, get meals, shelter, etc. It must be better than just going from place to place.

Then I realized how odd this thought was.

Does anyone else have any obscure thoughts they'd like to share, or maybe just respond to mine?

Some of them do, but are later released. I've had that thought too, and that is the conclusion I came up with.

OT: I tend to have an odd way of thinking about things, so this happens fairly often. I can't think of a specific example right now, but if I do, I'll edit this post.

Some homeless people do.

Though usually, the number is far less than people think, and it's just the right wing media blowing things out of proportion (or as they call it in America, the media)

Daily Mail and Conservatives over in Britain make a big deal most winters about homeless people trying to overcrowd our system by committing crimes to gain shelter, but given the amount of homeless shelters around, and the aid efforts, the number is quite low. (I have a friend who's an aid worker and hates this perception of homeless people.)

90% of people arrested for things like, public nudity, are homeless people looking for a place to spend the night. my problem with this, is that shelters have got to be more comfortable.

I'm pro death penelty in concept and not in practice, which people find weird. (or atleast make a point of telling me so)

If you were homeless due to drug addiction, it would be presumably easier to get drugs on the street.
If you were homeless due to poor circumstances and are hoping to get out of it, it may be beneficial in the long term to have a clean police record.
Some homeless people may have a moral issue with doing something bad enough to be worthy of significant jail time.
I have heard as well that being homeless actually earns lot more money than people think. There have been lots of cases of part-time panhandlers, who act homeless in the day before going back to a nicish house at night.

Another odd thought I had: Isn't hope the worst possible thing that a human can have? For it causes the present never to be as "good" as our image of a future that may never well come to pass.

Nah, what you're describing is something like the bastard love-child of idealism and futile optimism. Hope is a fairly different animal, and is more prone to emerging during times of adversity; namely, the persistent ability to believe that life can improve even when the shit is hitting the fan so hard that the fan's been knocked over.

OT: I've been back-and-forthing with myself a lot recently as to whether all political ideologies are doomed to failure, particularly with respect to the recurrent dichotomy between the vision of a political ideology and its inevitably flawed execution. Not sure if that's weird or just cynical, but there ya go.

I think of weird stuff all the time, and homeless people have been known to do this.

Prison is a good alternative to living on the streets? No. Prison does not rehabilitate, it can only punish. Should people be punished for having bad luck? Why not just round them all up and stuff them into an oven? Tell me, do you have a final solution?

Alrighty, I'm done insulting you. My random thought today was: Why is Darth Vader so damn slow? General Grevious was a prototype for Vader and he was quite agile. Shouldn't Vader, between advanced prosthetics and the Force, shouldn't he be really strong and agile?
