I don't buy games that I don't find fun or that have a crap single-player mode. Multiplayer matters very little to me, so the single-player has to be strong.

It's a cover shooter. I just don't get the appeal in hiding behind cover, waiting for some bowl-necked knucklehead to show his face so I can unload half a clip of ammo into it before going back to hiding. I've borrowed the likes of Gears of War and Uncharted 2 from friends because they're actually quite fun but I wouldn't pay full price for them or even buy them at all. Having said that I will be pre-ordering Spec Ops: The Line. Dubai is possibly the greatest setting they could have possibly thought up for it and the fact that the story is based of Apocalypse Now, the best war movie ever, goes some way to assure me that this will be worth it and could change my opinion on cover shooters.

Why wouldn't you by a game just cause he likes it? if someone likes a game wouldn't you at least consider the recommendation?

As for me i wont by a game without researching it first and if its single player is rather short or lacking i like to find out if it has/will have a good strong community in its multiplayer, and of course checking if my machine can run it.

If the music sucks I wont waste my time. There are exceptions of course like Suikoden 1-3 but that kills it for me. It's an integrated part of the game and if it's badly done that gives me some idea of what to expect from the rest of the game too.
