Is this worth it over the other i7 processors out there? It seems like the price is too good to be true at 3.4 ghz and a 9,298 passmark score. Nothing else comes close to that performance except the normal 2600. The other i7's with scores like that are in the 1k range, why is it so low compared to the others?

Honestly, I don't know. It is almost as fast as a I7 970 which just came down to $600ish at New Egg.

That graphics from the GPU are meh, so, either get this if you plan to do some heavy duty processing. Otherwise, you might be better off with the sub $200 I 960 and a good discrete card. My first impression of this chip.

If you haven't bought already, I understand a whole new architecture (socket 2211) is coming out this fall.

EDIT: The 2211s are out, are about 40% faster than the 1155s, but cost about 4 times as much.

I added an HD7970 to my 2600K and at stock settings am getting about 35 FPS on the Heaven bench test all settings except 3D maxed out.

2nd Edit: for Gaming purposes, I'm hearing from Tech Tips which can be viewed at youtube.com, that GPU quality is much more important than CPU. Dual core processors are almost keeping up with quad core and more processors... almost... as long as the graphics card is first rate.

The 1155s are still out there, still cheap (I like www.microcenter.com for processors, www.newegg.com for video cards) and run about anything. My HD 7970 has finally met its match though. I had to tweak my settings on Far Cry 3 to get a good 60 FPS.

Now I'm reading: any decent dual core processor is fine. What you really need for gaming is a great graphics card. My experience so far is, a decent $100 card can still do wonders on a 1080P monitor.
