I've been thinking about this for over a year now, and the proactive stirrings have finally begun to stir: I would like to move to Iceland at some point in the foreseeable future.

I'm besotted with the idea of the place. The fact that the population is under 400,000 just amazes me, I like the desolation that seems to prevail there, I relish the thought of living on the same island as something that can cripple air-traffic.
Basically, Iceland seems to be the place for me.

If there are any residents here, do you have any advice? In terms of jobs, the language barrier, visas and the like?

The language can be hard if you are not from Scandinavia, jobs are not that many, but the tap water is THE best in the world and the air is very clean, along with beautiful nature. I live in the outer-suburbs of Reykjavík and the mountain range is breathtaking.

So yeah if you love nature or just peace overall Iceland is pretty much the place to be.

Persistent rumor has it that it's home to some of the most attractive women on the planet. I'm fortunate enough to know one Icelandic-American, and based on her would be willing to tentatively confirm that. Nnnnot that that should influence you or anything...

[sub]...but it totally should.[/sub]

I've heard that their currency is practically worthless... But I have also heard that it's a beautiful country with high tolerance for immigrants and homosexuals so that's cool.

I read that as "I would like to move Iceland at some point in the foreseeable future" and was like "... wut?".

Anyway - afaik, Iceland is pretty dope. It seems to be the only country in the world with a government not heading towards impending doom. Problem is they're broke, and it's rather smoky out there. Which actually makes me curious as to how everyday life is there nowadays as well. Do Icelanders actually notice all this? I've heard absolutely no news at all on the state of Iceland post-recession and post-vulcanic eruption.

Yo. An Icelander here.
Jobs seem to be not much of here, but I could be wrong since I don't keep much track of it.
The language here is very hard to learn. If you want to speak almost perfect Icelandic, that is.
You'll have to excuse me since I don't know what you mean by visas.

As it's been said, we have beautiful nature here which is just stunning.

So, if you're sure you want to, then do come over here to Iceland.

Everyday life here can get stressful since a lot of people are worried they might not make enough money to feed their families.
But I'm not the best person to ask since I spend most of my time inside my room and don't really watch news or anything, so I haven't noticed it a lot.

Not many topics are about it. And the topic was very simply 'Iceland.'
You could almost hear "serious face has been equipped."

And Iceland is funny for some reason.
