I'd buy a 3ds but...

So I read that 3ds had a price drop, and with the cool games eventually coming to it like the new Zelda,Mario etc,for a moment I seriously thought of buying it. I would buy it,I was that close to take the decision, but after I searched on google for a specific feature I thought Nintendo's mobile console would have, and learnt that it doesn't have it,I now won't buy it.

I like its games and I want to play them, and its on my financial ability to buy one,so it would be making very sense for me to buy one.
Yet the thing this device misses is too important for me,and unfortunately it just misses it.
It's a tv-out that would allow us to connect the thing to a television to play the games on the tv's screen.
You see I'm not really a handheld gamer as I find the usual screen size of handhelds very small, and I also don't stay outside that much, and when I am outside, that will be with friends and we will have other things to do than each one of us staring at a screen. So that's it.
If 3ds had a tv out port,I'd connect it to my tv or compuer monitor and I'd be sitting back in my bed and playing these nice games comfortably. I'd love to.
But Nintendo refused to add this simple and cheap to implement [it wouldn't even elevate the price 10$] yet important feature the console.
They have added all the crazy things one could imagine to that thing like Augmented Reality tech, gyroscopes, glassless 3d,touch screen, magnetic fields,wifi,whatever...
Even some of the most niche things that players are not going to use except from once, the day they will buy the console and they'd just want to check out all of its featuress.
Yet while the thing is bloated with all this cungo mungo mumbo jumbo,it doesn't have a quite cheap but highly practical and mainstream and standard TV out, which is standard to MOST portable devides today, phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, you name it.
It boggles my mind.

What you are talking about would work for the vita, but not the 3ds. The games would look completely awful, and would make no sense due to pretty much all of them using both screens and touch screen controls. It would not even work for the old ds games. I second Tizzy, you say you are not a handheld gamer so 3ds is not for you since the games are optomized for it.

Why would they add that?

Seriously, the resolution on the screen would be awful due to up-scaling, not to mention most games use both screens, looking back and forth between the touchscreen and the TV would simply be awkward and not fun.

The system was made purely to be used as a handheld, you can still lie back in your bed and play the games comfortably, the system has absolutely stellar games on it, but you already said that you are not a handheld gamer, it shouldn't surprise you that the 3DS doesn't have a function it doesn't need. I would hardly call it "important" You are simply not a fan of handheld gaming which is fine.
Not to mention that the bottom of your TV is not a touchscreenand controlling the TV screen with the touch panel woul dbe awkward and horrid, much like using those terrible trackpads on laptops.

Honestly, in all my time with my 3DS XL I never thought "I wish I could hook this up to my TV!"
The screen is huge for a handheld, you'll also hold it pretty close to you compared to a TV or even PC.
Not to mention the problems other people mentioned, upscaling, touchscreen etc.

But yeah, playing a dual screen system (touch screen no less) on a single TV screen would just be awkward.
What you need is some kind of small table for a mouse.

Yes, I concur, I am glad we agree on this important issue.

Why would they really add that kind of thing?

The last device to do that that I can remember was the GBA era, and that came with varying results.

Games like the 3DS do not look pretty on the big screen.

While that is true, there are ways to implement it to work. Look at the Gameboy Player on the GameCube for example. It didn't blow up the GBA/GB games to fit the full screen at all. Plus when using the capture board for a 3DS you can look based on your computer screen just fine.
I mean even hooking the PSP to a TV doesn't fill it out on the whole TV so I don't get why people keep thinking that's what would happen. I can think of many ways to implement it just fine actually, and I for one actually wish that Nintendo would do something like it.

They already have that. It's called the wii U.

The 3ds is meant to be portable. Buy a 3DSXL or Worst case buy a 2DS .

True, but why would I play a game that looks great and plays great on the 3DS in full screen on a TV that makes the screen smaller and harder to play (due to the touchscreen)

Its a neat idea, but I doubt it would work well in practice.
Again, I said that it wouldn't be in full screen, it'd probably be in a similar way in which the 3DS capture board works. Plus, I thought that it would be difficult to play the PSP on the TV since the buttons are different than other controls, and it works fine.
Sonic Lost world uses touch screen controls and most of the time you find yourself not needing to look at the touch screen to use Wisps or something else.

It's entirely possible and easy to implement, hell have it work in tandam with the Wii U Game Pad as that could function as the touchscreen. See if this were the DS then I'd agree, but I honestly think you're underselling the graphical capabilities of the 3DS when it comes to project it on a larger screen. Plus this would also benefit people like me so that we wouldn't have to get our 3DS' modified just so that we can capture the footage of it.

If screen size is an issue, go with the 3DS XL. It's screen is plenty big and enjoyable to look at, and the system isn't held back at all by the extra size. It certainly beats the fact that the 3DS would just be an awkward controller playing games that are an eyesore anyways.

I got an idea for you, Nintendo... The Wii U Plus!! The Gamepad can have a working game slot for your 3DS games!!!

It's perfect for OP's needs of wanting to play 3DS games on the big TV screen!

OT: Yeah... Just get a 3DSXL... It's like those portable DVD players that still exist, but can still fit it your oversized pockets! Plus, who says you have to go outside to play it? Just sit on your lay-z-boy and play it with the 3D off, if you keep rocking that chair of yours...

But, if you really want that big screen difference, you could go for that 3DS capture combo thingy... But, since you were talking about the 3DS price drop, this suggestion is more of a mixed bag that it already was...

Other than that, I got nothing... and neither does captcha...

Just a little advice here... add spaces between punctuation. that's correct grammar and it makes your post a lot easier to read.

Also this feature really isn't needed. For those of us who care about the size of the thing we don't want to waste space on a TV out function. There's not enough room on the motherboard to allow for a second circle pad which is something I and lots of others would want.

Get a 3DS XL. Quite big screen without the overblown screen that makes your games look grainy due to the low resolution.

They should come out with something like the gameboy player for the wiiu. They probably won't, but it would be cool. I think the sony is in the process of doing something like this with the PSVita, so you can play all zero games for it on you tv. Maybe nintendo will try to compete with that who knows.

Like others have said, get the XL. And import a circle pad pro if you want some extra space for your hands. A TV out screen is redundant for a handheld. Especially the 3DS.

So you want something like a 1DS [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127427-Nintendo-1DS-Spoof-Site-Lampoons-the-2DS]?

Unfortunate, I guess.

Don't feel bad, I've played through Portal 2 with nothing but a touchpad, in fact that's predominantly how I play Minecraft. It still beats using a joystick any day.

As for OP's question issue, don't buy a handheld if you don't want a handheld. It's that simple. I personally like being able to lounge back on the couch with my 3DS 4 inches from my face, but we all have our own preferences, and yours clearly aren't suited for a portable console.

Nintendo systems typically have unique hardware which the games are built around, so you can't easily just change formats like that. If they were going to make these games available for playing on TV they'd probably make it play through the WiiU, which could use the controller screen as a bottom touch screen. It'd be really cool if they found a way to make that work, but don't expect it.

Although I can understand that playing on a small screen might be annoying, especially for long periods of time, I can't imagine that getting both DS screens onto a single TV would be any better.
Particularly when you needed to actually use the touch screen.

Sorry OP :(
