Boy are these guys slow on releasing games....And people complain about Valve being slow, iD last game was back in 2005.

Rage is not coming out this year either...
Difference is id's not doing episodic content.
Portal, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2. Plus keep making content for the last two?

The flashlight is so retarded...

I mean...they can go to mars but cant attach a simple flashlight to a suit/helmet/gun?
Yeah, I understand the retarded logic behind the idea of a flashlight, but the idea was so it would build suspense. You could only see in the dark while leaving yourself vulnerable, etc.

Doom 3 was a little...eh. Hope 4 can up the ante a little bit.
Yeah but instead of creating a creppy mood they created a annoying gameplay feature.

Keeping changing betewen guns and flashlight wasnt fun. If they want to create a feeling vulnerable why not give less bullets?

Getting distracted by something shiny is not the same as working on the prouct you're supposed to be doing, and Valve didn't make Left 4 Dead. Also, Episodic content is something that is supposed to take months, not years.
Yes they did. L4D started as a map for CS:CZ were the player had a few weapons and got swarmed by bots armed with knifes. Production started in 2005, Turlte Rock studio that came up with the idea was a studio that Valve wanted to bring back in 2000. But the president of said studio refused the offer cause he didnt like to move to Seatle cause it rained alot. But they made a agreement that the studio would produce CS bots and years later the idea for L4D was born. Back in '08 Valve had more money and decided to buy Turtle Rock and having two offices: One in Washington and another in California. And Valve finished up the product in the end.

Back in 2006 this came out in a PC gamer magazine "The unveiling of Valve and Turtle Rock's Left 4 Dead was a moment of pure wish fulfilment. The week before I went out to visit Valve's offices in Seattle to see a secret, unknown game, Tim and I had been discussing what we really wanted from gaming right now." As Valve was in the developement cycle from the beggining to the end.

Also this what Valve has released/developed these last 9 years:

Half Life 2
Counter-Strike:Source
Day of Deafeat:Source
Half Life 2:Episode 1
Half Life 2:Episode 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Steam
Source Engine

What iD did:

Doom 3
An Expansion to Doom 3
Quake 4
iD tech

While Valve have been putting out games, a new gaming engine and a digital distribuition/multiplayer platform and its releasing Episode 3 some day and maybe Portal 2, iD has released 2 mediocre games and a gaming engine and someday it will release 2 new games
