I also think they should make a spin off called StarOtter. The squad would be replaced with another squad of water based mammals such as the titular Otter O'Reef. Slippy Toad, being amphibious, would act as a sort of go between who has a role in both the StarFox and StarOtter teams.

I played a brief stint of StarFox 64 and that one on the DS (can't remember the name, Assault maybe?) they were both pretty good. I never played the GameCube games though. But sure a new StarFox would be cool. However before that, I'm waiting for a release date for Sin and Punishment 2.
