Purpose: Prevent cat from positioning itself between you and the monitor.

I use a baby microphone stand for this purpose. Works well, like a solitary prison bar that's just that little bit too awkward for them to navigate around.

That requires an actual effort to be made. Or, in some cases, a door that can be placed between you and the cat.

Better idea for an invention: a retractable bungee cord. Grab it, jump down, slow down as you reach the ground thanks to cord's stretchiness, and release the handle when you touch the ground - then handle flies back up and rolls on a winch to be used by someone else. How about that?
