2nd post. alright. this one'll make it. used the search bar, can't start a flamewar on it, it's all good.

I watched a movie that made me realize how the world is truly going to end. the name of the flick was called Idiocracy, and it basically said that evolution doesn't bring intellegence, and that the world is slowly going down the pipes because we are out there banging each other and not thinking. The first time I watched, I laughed and merely shrugged it off, but the second time I began to apply it to modern day jackassery and discovered we are well on are way to it. Am I the only one who has lost general morale in intellect or am I surrounded by simpletons? I live in Kansas, we are not the exact elite mental task force out here.

First off I'd just like to say that's a great movie.

I personally think that society will decline and then when people actually require skills to survive we will evolve again.

I've seen it, there is currently little evidence that the average person is any stupider than people in the past. In fact the opposite is true. I know, I know most people are pretty damn stupid now but records indicate that people were even stupider hundreds of years ago. But with our culture the way it is now with everything safetied up like it is, it's a scary idea that the world might very well end up like it does in idiocracy.

I've recently tried to explain to my neighbour how her concreting over her entire back yard will end up flooding my yard every time it rains because there will be no drainage. She doesn't seem to want to understand simple physics so I've given up and I'm building a 1 foot tall retaining wall along the edge of my property so she'll have herself I nice little swimming pool back there.

How does that account for all of the idiotic people in the past several thousand years mankind has lived on this Earth? Intelligence is less genetically inhibited than you'd think. And unless you're suggesting something along the lines of eugenics, there's no way to stop it if it even were a real concern.

Now, on a serious (but less buff, apparently) note, you have to remember that Idiocracy is essentially a heavy-handed (but hilarious) parody of what America has become and what the director thinks it could look like... On steroids. Yes, stupidity is rampant. Shit, apparently, HALF of America can't name a branch of government (Judiciary! THAT FUCKING EASY!). However, this is still at a point where it's preventable. If we put more money into education, both at the levels of minors and adults, then we could reverse this.

However, that would require taxes, and although I can always understand someone wanting a little more scratch (next time I take up Warhammer 40k, I'm gonna need a JOB.), when someone throws a fucking hissy fit when someone raises taxes for something USEFUL, like ZEE CHILDRENS, I just want to go to Congress and scream at someone. And I'm talking about a shrill, harpy-like nag that'll be ringing in your ears longer than a goddamn flashbang. There needs to be a guy in Congress whose job it is to go to meetings and say "Bullshit!" whenever someone, Democrat or Republican, says something retarded.

And that's my two cents.

How so is this true? What with new information being constantly fed to us, I would have imagined people today are far more intelligent then people of yesteryear. The fact is, speech is always changing, society is always changing, there are revolutions in the way we think and act. These happened all the time. Why is it that we will 'dumb' ourselves to death exactly?

The movie was fun and interesting. I enjoyed it but it holds as much weight as any other doomsday scenarios.

I watched that movie and felt more dumb afterward and I wouldn't be surprised to see our world turn out like that. That movie is a perfect example of why stupid ass people should not be allowed to have kids.
