Ok, so regardless of what language you speak, there are idioms, phrases that don't make sense but convey a vague notion to describe a situation.

In English we have things like "The Last straw (The straw that broke the camel's back" Or '"Where there's a will there's a way"

Translating idioms into other languages can result in some funny shit, for example, today i learned that in German, if you say you are going to feed sugar to your monkey, you are going to do your favorite thing.

So fellow escapists, if you speak another language, or happen to know an idiom that you think i hilarious, please share it with the rest of us. If it is from another language, include both the literal translation and the intended meaning.

In Spanish, there is a phrase, "Estoy hecho de disastre". The real meaning is "I am a mess" but it literally means, "I am a fact of disaster."

That is going to be my new catch phrase. By the way, I love your avatar.

Funniest idiom: I shot myself in the foot with that one.

Foreign language:
como agua para chocolate
Literally: like water for chocolate.
It means to be very angry or passionate. (it's not funny but its the only thing I got!)

Thank you very much, and happy holidays!

On a different note, I imagine you'd get some strange looks if you said, "I screwed the pooch" in another language.
