As a player of Team Fortress 2 on my 360, I don't have the luxury of that free DLC (Microsoft wants to charge us), no matter how awesome it sounds. Yet, people who have it tried cheating it with idler programs. I've heard people say it's not a 3rd party program, but it seems like this would have been an obvious intrusion on the gameplay. I mean, at best it seems like it completely goes against the reason for the hats (people who play a lot get them faster). For an MMO fan I don't see what the animosity towards Valve is. You used cheap tactics to get the hats and now the moderators are punishing you. Seems like there isn't much of an argument. If you are angry, then yes, I can understand that.

Did you seriously just make a thread to continue an argument from a (probably) licked thread? That's a big no no...
Although I do agree with your post that cheaters deserve punishment.

No one's really getting any kind of real gameplay benefit from idling. Everyone has all the weapons already and the hats are purely aesthetic.

But it's a prestiege thing. Prestiege is something you earn, which Valve intended to be by playing the game a lot. People should have realized that using programs to earn something was wrong.

Where's the thread? I can't find it in search.

Ah, there was a fundamental flaw in Valve's system, if you play more you might get them faster. Or you might not get them at all, the system is entirely random and opens a chance for you to get a hat/gun/misc every x amount of play time. The thing is, each opportunity is weighted towards giving you nothing, which is what you get most of the time. The only way to even vaguely increase the chances of things you want is to play well into the 1000's of hours, which is why idlers cropped up. I've racked up a few hundred hours on TF2 since the hats arrived and the Halo is the first one I've got.

It's all a bit silly to be honest. With the weapons the anger was justified, suddenly Valve were punishing people who didn't have time to play a lot and they weren't rewarding the ones with skill or dedication to a particular class. But the hats don't affect gameplay, so why anyone got so worked up about them to cheat is beyond me.

Thankfully valve's seen sense and upped the rate/chance of getting a hat.

So why do you care? Seems like you are ranting about something that doesn't involve you.

Eh, means it was locked and probably deleted. I think I misread this as a continuation of an argument from that thread (the title kind of lead me to believe that too). If it's not a continuation, then I apologize and still agree with what you said in the OP.

I am for VALVe punishing the cheaters, but I also think the rewards system is broken. Hats (and items) should be based on achievements or hours played, not a random chance.

I hate cheaters no matter where they are.
