I'm just saying that a lot of the time people get warnings for no good reason.
Correction: moderation of the Escapist is aggressive. Not even close to the same.

Here is the problem in a nutshell: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/3/19/

If Internet people are not stomped firmly and regularly by the iron boot of the Mod Gods, if they are not constantly reminded that the Banhammer is not only present, but poised to smash their posts and/or membership at any time.....if this subtle air of paranoia is not maintained, people become worse than animals.

Moderation of the Escapist is done as the people running the site want it done. So you got warned. So you think it's unjustified. Suck it up. You aren't in charge here. Your bruised pride is of no consequence. If you don't like adhering to a code of conduct, follow my magic link to the land of brain bleach and naked, screaming barbarity: http://boards.4chan.org/b/

...It's that gamers often deserve the shit they encounter in their everyday lives.

I never used to think that way, I used to think that nerds were really nice people and even that I was a nerd. Thanks to some people on here I now know that I was wrong on all counts.
Yeah. This is especially prevalent in the "Girl problem" threads. "Why doesn't she like me? *proceeds to stereotype all girls and refer to them in a derogatory manner*" Ugh. Also, nice to see you back! If you get banned, the level of discussion here is going to drop a notch. Even if I don't agree with you all of the time, you always bring a well supported view into a thread and make interesting points.

OP: it is that we are hyper defensive of our medium to the point of hypocrisy. As soon as some people see a study that may go against video games they put their fingers in their ears and ignore/flame it...which is just what the opposition is doing.

That there actually is a sensible forum on the internet. And that there is a lot to gaming and The Escapist has made me a regular follower of gaming related news.

Gotta go with this aswell. The Moderation is completely daft.

Also that people who don't agree with your opinion show this with aggressive language and implied insult. Although that's also people on the internet in general.

Don't know how many times I have seen this on this website. Will be a topic on whatever and it's funny how people think that being different really means that they are different. Do an example right now.

"Nothing special per say. Sort of have weird tastes and I am bisexual. Been made fun of my whole life because I like to wear girls clothes and eat mustard right out of the bottle."

Basically see crap like this all the time. There's nothing wrong with being weird, it feels like people on here are trying way to hard.

Never get in a descution about the possibilty of the existence of ghosts, and that people can be intelligent on forums.

And that MLP: FiM is an extremely infectious disease, but in a good way.

It taught me that some people read WAY to much into words, seriously, I misspelled a word, thus meaning my sentence was something different yet one guy points out that it means something else then that I'm an awful person for misspelling.

...its that adding a plus one (+1) to something you agree with all by itself in a post gets you suspended for three days.

I've seen people who have been regular posters for 3 years given 2 week suspensions for a "low content" post while some guy with 5 posts makes an even lower content post and gets away with it.

Also what kind of bullshit attitude is "if you don't like it suck it up". Yeah because that really gets things to change.

I've learned that this is probably the greatest thread ever. Seriously I haven't laughed this hard in a while. It's nice to see that we understand our faults, yet still love this site.

Also, advertising captchas suck. Please change them back.

I learned that you can have any opinion or belief you want, so long as it is the same as everyone else. If you're different, god help you.

It's that an overweight British man wearing a cheap suit and giving rants at a podium that looks like a cheap knock-off of V For Vendetta might actually have a few points. Logical ones even. As a bonus, is funny as hell to watch.

Freedom of speech doesn't guarantee quality, which in a way is one of it's good sides.

That mass effect fans are really easy to piss off. Seriously, mention mass effect 3 and streamlining in the same fucking paragraph, and they're all like "OMG THEY'RE TURNING IT INTO A GENERIC DUMB HALO and/or GEARS OF WAR SHOOTER AND THEY'RE REMOVING EVERYTHING THAT EVER MADE IT COMPLEX GAAAAAAAAH!". Seriously people, there are what, two trailers out and because of a few mentions of streamlining you're ready to dismiss it as a gears of war clone? They're just shooting sections. It's not a big deal.
It's because we're terrified of any possibility that it won't be good. Not saying those guys are right, just that they have their reasons. The more you love a work of fiction, the more you fear for its future. Personally, I'm a little more optimistic, but I still can't help but worry when BioWare talks about how "accessible" the game is going to be.

As for me? I've learned that geeky kids from first-world countries (like myself) will never run out of things to ***** about.

"Religion is ruining the world!"

"I've lost my faith in humanity; everyone but me is stupid!"

"There's no point in living!"

"Everyone discriminates against me!"

Because of this, I've also learned a valuable lesson: the less genuine tragedy you have in your life, the easier it is to blow the little things out of proportion, and to take yourself way too seriously.

No matter how much a forum/thread says they are fair, civil, and reasonable if they are on the internet...they are not.

it's that a lot of the people on here are idiots disguised as geniuses, who think that they're right because they can type entire paragraphs of shit that equals nothing because it's a bunch of huge "look at me I'm smart" words that tend to have little relevance to the conversation at hand, and then go on a mod rage (reporting you, then telling their friends to report you) because you point out everything that they said is wrong, and then say that what they said is full of shit.

What Blakfayt said...
I couldn't possibly agree with this more! you are so exactly right that I am sure some "genius" will try to disagree with you.
