If the ps3 is not ps2 compatible why have the option of making a ps2 internal memory card?

My (European release-day) 60 gig PS3 can play PlayStation games of all eras. From what I've heard, the first US PS3's had PS2 hardware inside, while the batch after that emulated the PS2 engine, a system which they kept for the PAL release.

My 60gb PHAT is being mailed to get fixed...

I hope I get it before FFXIII comes out... They say they have a 24 hour turnaround on fixing consoles.

It took 3 days for them to get the shipping materials to me. I am going to assume 3 days from today to get the system, 1 day to fix it and ship it, and 3 more days to get it back. That's 7 days!

Shit, I am going to have FFXIII for about a day without my PS3 and I'll be damned if I get it for XBOX.

So anyway. Ya, it's a firmware thing. Funny though how they can't just turn it off if they detect it's a slim.
