Thread from where this is. [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576869]

"Two of our most trusted neoGAF insiders have said that Microsoft is reacting hard to what has went down, and so they're going to try to dismantle PS4's image as a "for gamers" console by paying publishers and devs to not show their multiplatform titles during E3 on a PS4. In other words, even if the multiplatform version is coming out for the PS4, they won't be able to show them at E3, thus contributing to the perception that somehow Sony is getting significantly less support for PS4 than Microsoft is "for gamers."

Just Wow Microsoft. Just wow. If what I read is true, Microsoft is going to try to make the PS4 look Barren, by baring PS4 version of Multiplat games from E3. Just... Wow! This is, by far, the worst rumor about them I've heard! This is worst then Always On (Semi-Confirmed), no used games (Still Confused, but it seems like it's true in some sense), and mandatory Kinect (Completely Confirmed), I'm just... Wow!
Funny how people moan about MS and yet no one is moaning at the developers or publishers for taking the money. No one is forcing these game companies to take it, but they will because they are greedy. So lets put the blame (if its true) at greedy devs.

Yeah I expect nothing less from MS. It's really funny how they have "reacted hard" to the responses from everyone, but instead of working to improve the product, they simply just try and bring public perception of their competitor down to their level. If MS were to react to the criticisms by doing some back pedalling, for the sake of the consumer, nobody would really mind, as it ends up beneficial. This just has no real winners.

Despite this, I would colour it highly unlikely for this to happen. Publishers want to make sure their multi-platform titles are really touted as such, so as to ensure popularity of the game is at its highest for all camps. Then again, with how short term publishers tend to think anyway, maybe they will go for a short-injection of cash now and end up regretting it later on.

Also, what did Ubisoft do to get the title of one of the worst?
They pretty much started the whole always-online DRM thing with Assassin's Creed II on the PC, and have had tenuous PR in relation to the PC crowd -- A year or two back they were pointing fingers everywhere, calling the entire PC demographic a bunch of filthy pirates and saying that 95% of the people who would play their games wouldn't legitimately purchase them.

OT: Wouldn't it be funny if the Xbox One wasn't actually originally intended to be a games console? Obviously that'd be silly of Microsoft, but it would make me laugh and laugh. Of course, I'm going to take this entire rumor with a big fat [Citation Needed] sign until we've got more than a few NeoGAF threads to go on.
Yeah they had been blacklisted by me until they heavily backtracked on most of their bitchery.

I STILL haven't bought a few of their games because they won't take off their nonsensical DRM.

Shit...uplay is unnecessary too :/. I'd much rather my achieves be on Steam (or even GFWL...shudder) than uplay.

To think, all they have to do is remove the once a day always DRM and used game killing policy and then people will actually want the console.
Whoa?! Microsoft has a console coming out?

News to me.

If the publishers take the deal, logically, both them and M$ must be at fault.
It makes no sense to just blame one party.

Sounds too stupid even for Microsoft. If they really were trying something like that it shows that either A) they are that desperate, B) they're that stupid to think it would work or C) some combination of A and B.

If they seriously did try something like that at E3 it would probably play out like this...

Sony:

Nintendo:

Fans:

Though to be fair, Microsoft isn't yet at Joffrey-level douchebaggery. Though if this rumor is true it will bring them a fair bit closer.

as this would generate the biggest backfire in the history of things that could backfire, i recon this is nonsense

and i'm no fan of the xbone right now.

it just makes no business sense to alienate your fans ( as a developer ) by siding with an unpopular name because you will just loose sales from a 'supposedly' more popular system

but it's all fan-think right now, nobody can predict the future.. so it's more likely than not just rampant paranoia

if microsoft really wanted to hurt sony they'd have an easier time just buying all their consoles and converting them into cloud storage boxes, or leaking a hack that lets them play copied games

wait a minuite.. if microsoft bought a playstation for every xbox, and made it into a cloud server... ahhh... NOW i get it.
clever microsoft, veeery clever.

Honestly, I think the Xbox One failing needs to happen, especially with all the potential DRM and always online possibilities the console represents. Otherwise, we'll just keep having more and more restrictions slowly heaped onto console gaming. This is especially true with a US company due to the generational blindness to long term consumer and employee commitment, something that Nintendo and Sony, despite their mistakes, still appear to understand.

Well, at least Nintendo. Sony is still floating in the ether somewhere between a giant fiery pit of fan pitch forks and... according to Captcha "chocolate rain".

I'm willing to believe this. After all M$ paid Namco to make Tales of Vesperia Xbox 360 exclusive in the west, even tho the PS3 version was a 'Directors Cut' with far more content.

Essentially if M$ can solve a problem by throwing money at it, well they have a LOT of money to throw

To be honest, if I was Microsoft I would probably try to arrange for the developers to show off their games exclusively on MY console. I mean, that's not that dodgy, its just good PR practice. Decrease an opposing product's visibility? Hell yeah. The companies have a choice in the matter. If Microsoft was blackmailing or extorting this special treatment, that would be a different matter.

Nope.
No no no no no no no no.
Just no.
I refuse to believe that even Microsoft is some stupid and so bleedingly corporate minded that they would ever come up with this plan and expect it to work.
I mean, how would they even get it to work? You can't keep something like what games they'll be on secret for long? How could they even pay for all the bribes?
I shall not be losing my faith in humanity this day!

OK so, E3 is still industry and press, right? Who is this going to fool? Are press going to forget to ask if a game will come to the PS4 when they don't see one at the demo. Also, aren't all these games going to be running on hotshit PCs tucked away under a table anyways?

My bolding. They aren't paying pubs and devs to not show their multiplatform games, they just want them all to be shown running on an XBox One over a PS4. They don't have to say the game is only coming out on Xbox. MS just wants all the games to be demonstrated on their hardware over the competitors. It is still somewhat scummy, but all this does is show off the game on one system instead of both systems. You will not be able to compare and contrast the games on both systems this way. Read the text!

It looks like a pretty desperate move to me. Seems MS is afraid the PS4 versions of the games will outshine their own.

I doubt this is true. The second any Dev leaked that they were being pressured into this kind of thing it there's be a Microsoft hate shitstorm.

Microsoft wouldn't be that thick. Would they?

It's microsoft. You're surprised?

This is a company who, during the 90's were known for the phrase Embrace, Extend, Extinguish.

They've been compared to the borg, because that's pretty much what they used to do.
If you had a company with a competing product, they'd buy you out.
And... If you refused, they'd crush you in any way possible.

Seriously, microsoft has a long-standing reputation for being evil.
It amazes me more that people have somehow managed to forget that...

I mean, their reputation was so bad when the original Xbox was released, they went out of their way to make the microsoft logos and such as tiny as possible.

Ah well. XD. I guess they've just slipped back into old habits really.
Oh. Someone else also remembered what Microsoft was like in the 90's. :p

I'd have to say... it's not impossible. Never discount the possibility of Microsoft displaying a combination of heavy-handedness, misguided notions of its own right to dominate and internal miscommunication.

Though I also wouldn't leave out the possibility that the reality, to the same effect, looked something more like this:

Microsoft: Hey, we'll make you a deal. Sign this contract, and we'll give you $$ for only displaying the following games at E3 on the XBox One.

Publisher: That sounds good. It doesn't really matter this early which hardware we display our games on, so long as we get to display it. And we're always looking for ways to shore up our expenses at these expensive trade shows.

M: Ah, yeah. About that. It looks like our hardware isn't quite as ready for prime-time as we expected.

P: Oh well. I guess we're back to showing on Sony hardware, then?

M: Not so much, no. Read that contract you just signed again.
