So, throughout life we all adapt a number of different personas. We are different people to our family, at work, to friends etc. However, exploring different personas has been brought to a completely new world with the advent of the internet and of RPGs. With the internet, we have a perceived veil of anonymity allowing us to act without fear of reprecussion. In RPGs, we can explore our other personas in new and interesting ways.I'm guessing that Escapees have experience with both these mediums.

So, my question to you is what would you do if your everyday self got stuck in a room with one or more of your personas?

For me personally, I have three broad categories of self. In real life, I am quiet and reserved. On online chats, I'm typically a know it all elitist dick. In RPGs, I'm always the selfless archetypal hero. My guess is that my quiet self would sit back as RPG self proceeded to murder my online self.

I'd beat Bono to death. After getting his autograph.

But if I met my persona?

Shit...I'd be find with my online persona. And most post-Fable 2 gaming persona.

For any RPG from Oblivion ending with Fable 2, I was an evil, heartless murdering bastard. I'd be dead.

In real life, I'm hippie who gets stoned. In Saint's Row 2, I'm a hippie who gets stoned and then kills people.

Haha, that is a fantastic first response, my metaphorical hat is off you you, sir, loving the Highlander reference.

As for the OP, I would expect many awkward silences as the different personalities tries to come to terms with what the fuck is going on. I'm also predicting my FPS personality going on a killing rampage, before being killed by some unseen snipers(damn snipers, that always happens!)

well all of me's are so similar...we'd hit it off. we'd go tobogganing, camping, get drunk, and on tuesday we'd save the world because that rpg gamer guy kinda needs to get his kill on. seriously, he gets twitchy if he hasn't shot or stabbed someone in a couple of days.

Aww, I was going to come in with the same line. Well pretty much. I dislike U2 so it might have been more graphic.

I am a far nicer person online. Truthfully I am more then just a bit of a dick in person.

I'd say, "Hey, it's ok guys. You'll always have Joshua Tree".

The only time I act differently is when I'm drunk (a state I've managed to avoid since August). When drunk, I become overly friendly, flirtatious, and generous. I just give shit away.

We had a Mad Men viewing party at my house over the summer and made drinks to match the show. So my drink of choice was the Old Fashioned [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Fashioned] (the original cocktail). By the end of the night, I had given my roommate a bunch of games (Mass Effect 1 and 2, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV, Fight Night Round 4, Dragon Age Origins, and like 8 others). The roommate was moving in a few weeks and my Xbox was broken at the time, so I didn't remember that until a month or two later.

So if I could meet me that night, I would have the party somewhere else. Or...drink water.

I would finally ask him why i can't be like him. He has a lot of traits i wish i had. I've since come to accept we are two different people, but he always seems to deal with things better than i do. He knows what to say and how to act when i do not. I think this comes with being borne of the internet, a mask of anonymity like a shapeless lump of clay that you can mould into the mask you wish to wear. The real world is more harsh than this virtual one, so his experiences have differed. When you are born in the real world, it's almost as if you have no control over who you are or what you will grow up to become. He has had the good fortune of shaping his own image and creating his own free mind and personality. I've tried to emulate his behaviour before, but i never manage it. I think i'd ask if he thought i had any good points, as well. While we may be two different people, we have our good and our bad points. I guess that's why we are of the same body and are aware of each other's existence. We probably wouldn't be the same individual if we didn't have to share this body with the other person. Ultimately, i would ask him if he thought we were more than the sum of our parts or not.

If I met U2 I'd be all like "hey I don't know any of your songs but Bono is a douche".
My mum likes them a lot tho.

I thought you meant the band when I read the title.

OT: um... probably have a conversation and be friends I suppose. My Personae and I are one very good terms, and each makes up what I am.

If I met one of my many selves I would try to protect all of my stuff because I am quite a kleptomaniac in pretty much every game.

Fallout 3: I steal your guns.
Halo Reach: I steal your flag.
WoW: I steal your soul (Warlock).
Team Fortress 2: I steal your Medic heals (Spy).
Oblivion: I steal your everything.

That's how I see it...

I have 22 characters over all of the tabletop rpgs I play, so that room would be crowded.

Did not read thread, lol

I am generally lazy and laidback, my online persona would be more directly helpful and proactive, and my RPG self is almost always the standard squeaky clean hero. So I think we would get along fine, just chill.

I've crossed paths with U-2 on several occassions. They are usually present at most air shows.

Back on-topic, I would probably get along quite well with my alternate selves, although my online gamer persona can get a bit sarcastic at times.

Well the hero me and villian me would immediatly start trying to kill each other, so my RL and online selves would just cower behind cover and hope that the hero me wins. If the hero me wins we'd all go out for beer, if the villian me wins then the other two die (cant have any witnesses), and he'd go our for beer (and random carnage)
