If you could change ONE thing about FFX?

With a remake/ remaster of Final Fantasy X coming in the near future I thought it would be interesting to find out what my fellow escapists would change if they could change one thing and one thing only.

This came about from a conversation I had with a friend where we decided we would probably either change the voice acting for certain characters (Tidus, Wakka and Rikku mostly) or change some of the character models (Seriously Tidus? Leather Lederhosen?)

Change Tidus' hair so he doesn't resemble Meg Ryan.

Second place goes to the removal of this. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H47ow4_Cmk0]

Yeah, I will actually include the laughing scene in the things that can be thrown out rapidly.

Since I've come to accept almost without question what I consider the general Final Fantasy way of doing things (crazy hair, "emo" characters, melodramatic moments, stories that may or may not make sense for at least three-quarters of the game) I have no qualms in the realm of things already suggested. I would probably like the game about five times more if it had implemented the more standard ATB gauge system, however. On the other hand I haven't played X in a very long time, so it's likely that I'd find other things more worthy of being cut/changed if I had.

All that being said, I found that I was incredibly uncomfortable during the scene where Tidus and Yuna float around in a pool making out while a Japanese pop song plays in the background.

Better side quests to get the Celestial Weapons/other optional things.

FFX has one of the largest and most diverse selections of bonus bosses of any game, but without the ability to break damage limits and gain the needed stats quickly, a lot of them are just too obscure, frustrating and boring. The game is one of my top favourites of all time, but who thought dodging 200 lightning bolts in a row was a good or even achievable idea? The same person who thought it would be fun to require you to win a Chocobo race in 0 seconds, I guess.

On that note, instead of Meg Ryan, Tidus' hair actually reminds me of Chocobo feathers. Maybe that's why his ultimate weapon is the one you do the races for.

Remove Tidus completely.

Set Auron as the main character .... he needs no companions.

On a serious note....

Rework every single voice over.

Some of those scenes are cringe worthy as it is and the terrible voice acting doesn't help (i'm escpecially looking at you Tidus and Yuna laugh scene).

Limit the number of games a Blitzball player can be signed for. It's ridiculous how many games some players get signed for, essentially making them unattainable in any kind of realistic way.

And add some way to recruit players without having to track them down all across the world. If I see a player I want in an area I won't be coming back to any time soon and they're already signed then I'm fucked. I want to be able to recruit them as soon as their contract is up.

I like the laugh Idea. But instead of removing it, replace the audio with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm_GPkOfVKI&feature=related

Also, not all of the voice actors were bad. I though Kimahri, Auron, and Rikku were pretty good. Oh, that reminds me, more Rikku ass shots!

In all seriousness, one of my favorite games of all time. Some of the outfits could definitely be changed, or just about everything about Tidus. I do agree that Yuna-Tidus water scene is an odd one, but it's not so horrible it must be taken out. I just pull up youtube or a song or eight that I like when it comes on lol. OR have everyone played by Christopher Walken, and/or Robin Williams. Or both, so you never know which you're gonna get. Or they can do commentary.

On a side note, I always wished I could hook up with Rikku instead. Aside from her superior looks, she's just a much more interesting, and cute (yes that's a trait I look for) character. But I can almost guarantee that won't happen.

How about getting rid of its entirely superfluous sequel?
I'd pay big money to see every copy of X-2 flung into the nearest black hole.

Make it not a Final Fantasy game, FNAR FNAR.

Just kidding - though I'm not a fan of FF in general, as far as I remember most peoples' complaints revolved around Tidus being an insufferably annoying character. I've heard some of that voice acting - they really should rework it for a lot of the characters.

Have the game end with the final summoning. Get rid of all the crappy dream of a dead ghost, super airship nonsense and turn it into something much more poignant.

How about this idea: tell the story of Brasca, Jecht and Auron. Their pilgrimage would be so much more epic.

Nah, I liked FFX the way it was; the good and the horrible bad. New voice overs wouldn't be a bad idea, but I think I'd miss some of the camp and awkwardness of the original. Okay, scrap the laughing scene, that one has to go.

Oh, and scrap/completely rework the blitzball and chocobo minigames. They were so frustrating.

I LIKE the Sin battle.

OT: One of two things.

Make the in-story Blitzball tournament game less irritating (in the cutscening and the gameplay and just ALL OF IT).

OR...

Get rid of Seymour's entire stupid B-plot and have it that he was really Yu Yevon the whole time, manipulating things from the background, thus dumping the idiot side-villain and characterizing the supposed CAUSE of Sin.

Give Tidus a proper pair of trousers/shorts/pants (whatever that abomination is). Those things made me cringe every time I looked at them.

Get rid of all the minigames. ALL OF THEM. Haven't seen a good minigame since FF7, I swear. Well, FF8's card game wasn't insufferable when it wasn't being insufferable(if you've played it, you'll probably get it).

And FF9....

Hmm. Maybe it's just X that pissed me off with its minigames.

Aside from that...I didn't really dislike the game. The sphere grid was kind of interesting, and I liked picking my levelups, even if it was pretty linear(in the first iteration, at least).

Gear was kind of boring in the game. The price of customizability is that no one weapon seems all that awesome.

Characters all served their purpose(yeah, even Tidus wasn't all bad), and I enjoyed the combat mechanics.

I thought Tidus' VA was a bit dodgy, and his face looked exceedingly silly in-game but he wasn't so bad overall. I'm not sure how man people gripe about how half the cast of Kingdom Hearts look, seeing how strikingly similar their appearances are to his...also I will savagely eyeball and possibly send disagreeably worded letters to anyone in SE planning to change Rikku, Auron, or Yuna's (yes that's right i said it) voice actors.

I guess what i'd really liked to see changed is the overly convoluted grid system, i'm not sure what they were thinking there.

Most of all i guess i'm disappointed they're even bothering with a remake. 'Hey Square, you did it, you made wonderful game, of course it wasnt perfect, but it's still one of the most treasured media experiences of my whole life, i'll always remember it with a smile, how about rewarding our faith in you by making something new that's as good? I'm even willing to take close. Don't crawl through your past to scavenge the last things you made that were decent and drag their exhumed bodies kicking and screaming into the new age and hope that we still give you all our money. Thx.'

From a story perspective? You don't think it undermined it completely? For me going on a pilgrimage to discover just how much it means to give the world its few years of peace and growing up enough to realise that is a cause worth giving your life for is a lot more interesting than destroying the world destroying monster through the power of love and J-Pop.
